I've always have been either a Ford or foreign car person. However we just traded in a 03 Z06 with 20k miles. The guy who traded it in just stroked it out to a 383, installed heads, LT and bunch of other things. Needless to say, the car is pushing my buttons and enticing me to buy it, just have to get it past the wifey. She is already ticked that I have 3 other cars that I dont drive much. What power do these things put to the ground? Is this setup reliable? Also, down the road if I needed to sell it, are they desirable?
Buy it!!!! Usually between 470-500rwhp depending on the combo, reliability is usually pretty good as long as the work was done by a quality shop and depending on what the "other things" are. That of course depends on how aggressive the set up is,and how hard it's driven track/street without an upgraded drivetrain, but usually valve springs need be checked or changed every couple years is the only regular issue.
So far she's not being understanding about my needs. Going to work on her tomorrow but I just found out someone else is trying to purchase the car. Here's a pic of the engine bay:
Its better to ask for forgiveness, rather than permission
That's how I bought my '03 Z, LOL. She was pissed!
She's over it now though. She likes the car.
Sounds like a sweet Z. Get it checked out and if the price is right, I say go for it! Has the motor - with a few other mods you have a sweet sports car for the money.
hmmm somones dumped some money into this bad boy. Before i would pull the trigger id be trying to get in touch with the guy who traded it and WHY. Asking him who did the work? reciepts? tune? Maintenace records? ESPECIALLY considering this maybe your first vette with alot work done. LOTS to learn....
A stock C5 Z06 is traction limited. If you are coming to a Z06 for the first time, I would suggest a BONE STOCK Z06 for reliabiity....and leave the nannies on

If you don't mind my asking, what did you give the PO on the trade? Just curious is all, if you can't post it I understand.

A stock one wouldn't do it for me, used to driving some strong cars. Anyway, I brought it home and my driveway is too steep. I must say, I'm thoroughly impressed with the rawness of this car. Well until I move, there will be no Vettes in my future.
