Default New owner needs help

Just bought my first vette. 1998 coupe with 15,000 original miles. Its in great condition. It passed nys. inspection today. Only two problem so far and that is the service vehicle message will display now and then. The only thing that I know is wrong with the car is one of the tire sensors is missing. I no little about the mechanics of cars. The car so the original owner says has never been in the rain. Another message that has displayed twice is low coolant, that is full and the mechanic who inspected the car said that could a sensor sticking. Could any of those issues cause the service vehicle message appear. What else could it be oil was changed 1,000 miles ago. Thanks

I get that on my 98 occasionally. I usually just hir reset and it goes away for a while. I need to check my codes and clear them as appropriate. Probably the same for you. Zuti

Instead of me trying to fiqure how to do this, would I get the same results if I had autozone put their scanner on the car, I'm sure they'll do this free of charge.

That's just lazy. The codes are there for you to read and members here can tell you what to do about them. Do you trust Autozone more than Corvette owners to help? Autozone can't read all the codes the onboard diagnostics will anyway.

You can't be serious!? All you do is press a couple of buttons and the car does the rest...besides if your going to keep the car you might as well get acquainted with it and learn what the car has to offer...but hey, at the end of the day it's your car, do what you wish...

Read the link provided in the earlier post and check the codes yourself.

Pulling the code couldn't be easier. Really easier than driving to AutoZone.

Thanks, it was easy I really thought it would be complicated, like I had stated I no little about the mechanics of cars. I had 3 codes, 10-pcm, po463h, p1433h, Bopfa c2115. On that code I know the left back tire doesn't have the value stem sensor in the tire. On the first two codes the gas gauge was going from full to empty as I was driving. I don't know if these sensors are for the fuel sending units or not, I have read on this forum about using techron fuel additive, and put a 20 ounce bottle in the tank and yesterday the gauge was find. Hoping that was the problem if not can someone help let me know if those two codes might be causing the problem. Those codes did have the H after them so I'm assuming that might not be the current problem. Thanks.

Cool glad you were able to pull them.

As far as the fuel codes, not sure where the fuel level sensor is located. I do know from changing out my passenger side tank sending unit/fuel pump that there is a level sensor on that side and it will affect your fuel gauge.

Techron is a good place to start though.

Good start, now keep on reading the forum and LEARN about your car, this is the education that you need, trust me, like you, I knew nothing about Vettes. But I knew that I wanted one. So in December 2009 I came upon a good buy at Carmax, 2000 Coupe w/14,981 miles on it. I do all my oil changes myself, 2000 Vette, 2003 Mercedes, 2008 Hummer. I used to own a 2006 Solstice (mini Vette) that was way too much fun to drive, but traded it in for the Hummer. I have taken the time to learn about all my cars, because there is no one to take care of your car like you, but you. Most service people are there to make money, my diff oil change = about 1 1/2 hour, theirs = 10 minutes.

Only you are going to take time in dealing with your car and as you become used to doing things to your car, the times will go down, but you will know it was done right. No stripped oil change bolt, fresh oil actually put in. Tires properly torqued, ETC................

Good luck with your car.......................

As you have read the gas gauge issue is one of those known issues that the vettes have. Techron in the gas tank for a couple of fills usually fixes the problem. As far as the other codes go, you are correct that anything with the letter "H" after it is a code from the past. It's possible that the "10pcm" code may some how be affecting your main code "service vehicle." I would try ressetting the codes, and if that doesn't work disconnect the battery for a few minutes. As for the coolant sensor, if you have a 97 to 00 I believe the sensor is in the overflow tank so if it is full you may need a new sensor. If that is the case I think the sensor is part of the tank...don't quote me on that and let others chime in, but it's a start.

hopefully this link will be useful for you...

BTW, congrats on giving it a try and figuring it out!

Great info. Thanks for all the help. I've been stopping by the parts store periodically because the check engine light has been on since I bought the Vette 3 months ago. O2 Sensor and Secondary Air System. I've checked it just so nothing else has happened. Now I can do it myself. And yes I have bought me a set of the Service Manuals.
Nothing like this place. Love the Vette! Love the Forum!
