wats up, I got a little problem, my car seems like its overheating, when I'm at a stop light my gauge reaches up to 250 my fans turn on but that seems like its not helping, and when I start driving my temp. drops to 200, and I wen come to a stop light reaches to 250 again, this happens everytime I stop. any idea what this can be, or anyone encounter this problem too??? any info is welcome. thanx
Mine bumped up to 230 sitting in the sun@idle. A bit concerning, but as much as it may seem crazy, modern vehicles and these aluminum blocks seem to take to the heat pretty well(whereas my fat *** in this 105 degree heat DOES NOT!!!)lol

I'm not an expert in these matters but just my thoughts...
1) Are your fans coming on at all? If they are not coming on, you would see temps raise whenever you're at a stand still, but go down as soon as you're moving.
2) It wouldn't hurt to install a lower temperature thermostat
On a different note, I got a DeWitts radiator and the difference was literally night and day. The DeWitts radiator is probably 3 times wider than stock. Before the change out, on a 100 degree day here in Southern California, my temps could get up to 235. Now, this summer, my temperature barely goes over 200! Very much worth the money in my opinion.
my fans do turn on, dnt know exactly at what temp. turn on but I know they come on, yesterday day when I got home I left my car on pop my hood to see if they come on because I thought it was my fans but when I pop my hood they were on
Sounds like the radiator is clogged and not allowing the fans to pull enough air through to cool the water. I'd check to see you dont have anything stuck in front of the radiator and make sure that its clean from dirt. If you dont do this at least a once a year you will be seeing your temp gauge creep up.
I agree with ENIGMA94. My Z06 temps would start to climb when sitting at stops lights when I first bought the car. I cleaned out A PILE OF CRAP from the front of the radiator and the problem went away.
Mine was at 230 in stop and go traffic a few weeks ago. Cleaned out the radiator and AC condensor and it now runs 190 on the highway and 205 in traffic. Lots of stuff in mine.
I need to clean out my radiator soon as well, I've never done it since i bought the car (about 10 months ago). Any tips/tools that I should use that would help out?
thats exactly what I'm gonna do as soon as I get home, do u think it might be a good idea to flush my radiator, havent flushed it since 08
A flush wouldnt be a bad idea specially if you are running 3 year old coolant, But I dont think a flush will fix your overheating problem. Also, I personally have had issues with burping the system free of air so make sure you evacuate all air in the system to avoid air pockets that will cause you to overheat as well.

Having a compressor will help out greatly so you can use the compressed air to blow out the radiator. Some people have found specific brushes to work as well. My radiator was so bad I had to remove it and take it down to a do it yourself car wash and used the high pressure hose to blow the fins out. You must be careful in any rout you go though as the fins on the radiator will bend VERY easily. I'm sure there are some write ups on how people have done this in the past as its a very frequent issue with these cars.

I replaced the thermostat and it seems that fixed the problem not too sure yet, I also replaced the coolant with purple ice, it seems pretty steady at 205, but I'll keep watching it for the next couple weeks,

I wouldn't guess it to be the thermostat, I bet your radiator is still clogged, unless you've eliminated that as being your problem. Usually when its a thermostat you wouldn't have the overheating only when sitting still, and usually the car doesnt cool back down while driving. Unless the unit is just not opening till 200+ degrees (stock is 187) which is rare as most fail either fully open or fully closed, then I highly doubt its going to be just a thermostat.
