Default Pulling Engine

so for those of you who have pulled your engine, how hard was it to get your tranny bolts back in with the heads on. i dont want to have to pull the heads off this new engine. i want to be able to set the engine down in place & start bolting everything back up.

i pick up the new engine on saturday & hope to have it sitting in there the same night & buttoning everything back up on sunday. i dont have that much left to unbolt & remove to pull the old one. the ac unit is still hooked up, the oil or tranny cooler in the front, & i know the rad & fans gotta come out still.

just any tips you guys can provide before i finish pulling it will be appreciated.

the bell housing bolts do not go into the heads. Plus the easier way to remove the engine from a C5 is to unbolt the 6 bolts from the torque tube and bellhousing, leaving the bellhousing and clutch set attached to the engine.

I did this in my garage on jack stands and went out/in from the top. Couple pointers, you may or maynot already know.

Remove the accessories, all of them. makes for a much easier install.

Removed radiator and condensor as 1 unit.

Tape off any lines you removed (ac lines for example)

Use a transmission jack (short style) under the front cross member with 2x4's for width, drop the cross member by about 6 or so inches. (makes the realignment of the engine/torque tube easier)

Plan for longer than 1 day. Take your time and do it right the first time.

Pull the stud off the ac bracket for the ac compressor, it will allow you to put the compressor back on with the engine in.

Leave the intake manifold OFF when putting the engine in, it will give you aprox 2inches of additional clearance.

If you hear a plastic crunching sound when sitting the engine in, STOP! that is most likely your firewall or cowl panel.

Have alcohol near by.

Do you have any pics to post up?

Are you going to change out of the clutch/hydraulics while it's out?

What's your setup going to be?

Sorry, all I have are questions and no answers!

And what type and for what purpose?

Cleaning busted knuckles? Numbing frustration and angst via ingestion? For use in Methanol injection system? The suggestion of alcohol without any supporting information for its type, intended use and quantity can just cause more trouble. I tried to follow along here and came to conciousness lying under my car on the creeper and the oil drain pan had vomit in it! Please provide some more details

well right now i am $2300 into the build. last night my heads were delivered by UPS. i got a set of 799's off of egay. they are in great shape & the valves look practically brand new. my other box of parts from TSP was supposed to be delivered today but i missed them. in the shippment are new forged pistons & rings, comp cam springs, headbolts, headgaskets, main bearings, rod bearings & a LS7 clutch kit. i still need to get a new throwout bearing & pilot bearing. i picked up a comp cam from a guy on LS1 tech, & still gotta take the block to a shop to have it honed. i'm gonna try & drop it off this weekend. BPG just bought a tuner & we are hoping to get it together before he goes to recruiting school in 3 weeks. but i'm in school for the entire month of september so work on it is going slow now. i know there will be a few other things i will have to get, by the time i'm done though, i will probably be close to $2800 or so. oh yea almost forgot, gonna also do a port & polish on the heads.
