Probably lost money when you consider what he could have made if he invested in something else.
I looked at a new pace car at the Chevy dealer's in 1998. Actually, I kinda' liked the color scheme. Yes, the wheels are UGLY. I, wisely decided that my money could be better invested somewhere else.
Well, sometimes it is a bit difficult to predict the future. Where would you have put that money in 1998? The hottest investments at that time were dot coms. WorldCom was one of the best performing stocks on the planet in 1998.
Using my 20/20 hindsight, I sure wish I had 4 brand new 1998 pace cars instead of this worthless piece of paper.
Should have bought the pace car in 1998.

Reason: Add info
We just finished salvaging one that had over 150,000 miles. It casme with a salvage title but easily could have been fixed. It was an ultra rare 6 speed car. One door was smashed and the rear quarter behind it. At 150,000 miles it was well used, and enjoyed by one of our members.

When I first saw the '98 pace car I thought to myself what the heck is GM doing. But over the years I will admit the car has grown on me. I almost bought one back in December 2000 when I ended up buying my '00 pewter car. I kind of wish I had bought the car as they seem to be holding their value fairly well.

Honestly - I couldn't care less what people think of the 98 Pace Car, because I didn't purchase to please anyone but me. It makes me happy and since I used my money, that I earned and saved, and didn't ask anyone for a loan or permission....I'm happy with my purchase.
You know the funny thing is being on this forum for over eight years, I've seen a lot of people pass this way. I've also seen a lot of stuff here that made me throw up in my mouth....I just don't recall telling any one that their car was butt ugly or fugly. Opinions are noses - everyone has one and everyone's smells.

Sorry, no offense intended. It's a pace car and collectible as one. For me, I think it's the yellow wheels that set it off unfavorably for ME...and my nose...er opinion. Take care and have fun with it.
I like it.
It was not intended to be a daily driver, but I would still drive it. I would own one in a heartbeat had the finances allowed. This car was made for the shock and awe value and it hit its mark for sure.
You want a car that will turn heads, this is the one !
While I don't care for the looks of the '98 pace car, there are some pace cars that I think look pretty good. This '03 is an example.
While I wouldn't be interested in the '98, more than once I've considered doing the '03 decal package to my '03 AE coupe simply based on this picture.
Really nice but I just can't bring myself to put that big a decal package on it!
Maybe one day!
