RPO Z4Z a lot of people like them a total of 1,163 when out the door at Bowling Green. They were fully equiped with the only option not installed were the 12-disk CD changer, body side molding and the magnnesium wheels.
The people who approved that color combo at GM certainly are a testiment to allowing incompetent people to make big decisions. We've seen that process get repeated over and over again(not only GM BTW). Wasn't that the decade of Barny the purple dinosuar?

No magnesium wheels on that car - just plain old painted wagon wheels.
I must be one of the few guys who is still sorry I did not buy one in 1998 when I retired and purchased a "regular" 09 c0nvertible Z51 6 sp car....
IF you want to be noticed this is the car to drive...YELLOW interior...YELLOW WHEELS...and a PURPLE Exterior... hell even a mouse would turn and look at it ...
Count me as one of the few who like this car....

Believe me, the owner will get very tired of rubes asking "Is it a real pace car?" My Fiero is a pace car edition clone, lettering and all. Sometimes I felt like just telling them sure it's a real one with the rare V8 option, stole it from the track's museum!
I agree, it's likely to be the only C5 true collector car for many years just due to it's low production numbers.
Pace cars are always for the particular taste. The stickers are optional and don't have to be placed on but then the owner loses the resale value of the rare pace car. I take it you are newer to the Vette community because the Corvette has led the charge with pace cars. I am not really a fan but do respect them. A Corvette has been selected as the pace car at the Indianapolis 500 ten times The 08 edition of the Indy 500 represents a record fifth-consecutive year to lead the field.
while i recognize that beauty is always in the eyes of the beholder, if you are a pace car admirer, you have to appreciate the bold color approach used on the 98 pace car to really set it apart on the track. personally, i think being that unusual is appealing, and i would have one in a heat beat if all the pieces fell into place. remember that's why they make chocolate and vanilla ice cream, lol

I like them - in fact I own one. Mine is a low mileage example 21K miles. I admit that the car is not for everyone, and there are people that like them and those that don't.
The idea of the car is that Corvette was promoting the convertible body style that was introduced in 1998. I think they certainly attracted attention with the color scheme, which was their plan. I often joke that this is NOT the car you want to be driving if you're in the Witness Protection Program.......it gets a lot of attention.
I guess I am in the WITLESS Protection program for liking and owning it, huh?
I think the wheels were to accent the friggin flashlight thru bottle of **** yellow headlights system they sold with all C5s. It reminds me of the Japanese wanna be sports car of the 70 & 80, lots of color, dials, stick on spoilers, pin strips, words like Super, Rally, carp for all show and no go. You laugh but in another 10 years this will be the C5 to own for re-sale... But as a daily driver, I would never... Enjoy not this ride.

Someone stored and maintained that car for 13 years and is lucky if he broke even. Probably lost money when you consider what he could have made if he invested in something else.
This one I saw is also on EBAY, currently at $18,100. No bids in 4 days.
