Default Low profile floor jack

I have been looking for a reasonably priced low profile floor jack for my c5. Something that will only be used a few times a year so I did not want to break the bank. Thanks to this forum I found just what I wanted at A harbor freight store that I had never been to in my life. So far I love it for my purposes. For an extra $20. you get an unconditional 2 year warranty, anything that could possibly go wrong they give you a new jack, no questions asked. 3 ton jack stands 12.99 a pair. For $150 with the stands and warranty I'm in business. Just posting in case anyone might in my situation, as you all helped me find this one.

I've been using Harbor freight since the '70's,believe it or not. Not real high quality, but if you need a special tool etc. that you will only use once in a while, they can't be beat!!!!!

Please don't buy and pneumatic or power tools from Harbor Freight. They will fail and get you killed. Hand tools are a great deal but the other stuff fails at the most inappropriate times. You can buy the life-time warranty for $20 and still lose a limb or life.
I know from experience that their jacks fail and power tools won't work for very long.

i wouldnt buy anything from horrible freight that would ever run the risk of causing harm to me or anybody else. things you accept will die after a few uses, sure, but not a jack. spend the extra $50 and get a real, lighter, aluminum one from any autoparts store. works better and comes with the benefit of not killing you.

Power tools, agree, mostly junk. Funnily enough though, my HF jack has been great for the past 7 years or so. I went through 3 Craftsman jacks before that, they are complete garbage.

Furthermore, regardless of what jack you buy, there will never be a risk of hurting yourself with one. Because even if you spent $1000 on a jack you still never trust it. Jacks are for raising and lowering vehicles only. Never put a body part under a car supported by any jack, period.

Finally, auto parts store jacks most times are the same made in China junk too. Just another reason to never trust any jack, ever.

**** now you have me wondering if this jack is dangerous. 99% of the jacks I looked at are made in china anyway. Must have read a thousand jack reviews and even though I always thought HF tools were junk I actually found lots of positive comments on their jacks. It will be used mostly from the frame rails with pucks & jack stands so I guess I'll have to take my chances as it's too late now. A couple of positive comments and I'll sleep better tonight

I bought a 2 ton low profile jack from Harbor Freight. It does the job and I've had no issues with it. It's also the lowest profile jack I could find. It drops to about 1.5" off the ground.

I use jack stands with it just in case, but for the most part I trust it.

Just throw a wheel under the car before placing the jack stands under, I usually leave the wheels under the car anyway just for a back up......

Absolutely not. Just have to weed through the BS statements like any forum.

The only jack I have personally had multiple problems with is the Craftsman Aluminum Racing Jacks. I’ve went through 4 in 3 and a half years all covered under warranty except the last one which went a few months after the warranty expired. The seals were bad on them and the pot metal adjuster deal snapped on two. I have had a Harbor Freight jack going on 4 years now and haven’t had a problem. I will say the jack I had before the Craftsman debacle was a cheapy Harbor Freight which blew a seal in a couple years which lead me to trying a "better" jack.

Here’s a recent thread to check out if you haven’t already.

I bought a low profile from Costco. Like all floor jacks now days, it's made in China. Purchased it to replace a jack my dad bought at Sears in 1973. The Sears one is made in Japan, but still works good. The Costco one works great and is a lower profile than my Sears one.

Thanks Omaha now I can sleep at night, you and I think along the same lines. I have a homemade cast iron jack for my 900lb Harley which uses a 1ton bottle jack and I have used it for 12 years now and when the seals start to go in the bottle jack I buy another from a place here in RI called job lot, for around 6 bucks or so. If anything should have killed me it should have been that stupid jack, or the 13 1/2 months I spent in Viet Nam in the 1st Marine Division. When **** happens it happens.

That is a real good tip. A friend taught me this a long time back and now any time I jack up a vehicle when the wheels come off they go under the vehicle as a back up. Plus it gets them out of the way.

I'd rather replace a set of wheels than have a car fall on me.

Default Jacks are for lifting not supporting use jack stands for that

I use my 3000# HF aluminium jack for lifting and put jack stands under the frame support points AS WELL AS LEAVE THE JACK THERE TOO. Lower on the jack stands and then jack up just enough to start to carry the weight. I've had bumper jacks slip and hydraulic jacks fail so I NEVER just use a jack unless I'm quickly changing a tire. My HF jack has stood up for 7 or 8 years and is going strong. It is the one usually sold for about $160 but several years ago I got it for about $110 with a coupon.

I saw Harbour Freights jacks and then bought 2 low-profiles from Wal-Mart..both are made at the same plant. My Craftsman jack has failed 2 times within a year, and NO warranty.

I have had a Harbor Freight low profile jack for many years. The only problem that I had was that they didn't put enough hydraulic fluid in it.

Never get under a car that is supported by just a floor jack, regardless of the brand. I use mine for just lifting the car. Whenever I get under the car it is supported by jack stands.

I have two Harbor Freight Jacks and they work perfectly. Always be safe and you will never have problems.
