Trunk space in the coupe vs. vert
Hi, all: I haven't been on the forum in a few months. It's nice to be back!! I just have a general question. How much more trunk space is there in the coupe vs. the convertible? Is there a big difference?
All along I thought I wanted the convertible, but lately I'm opting towards the removable top. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!

Once you put the top in the back area with a coupe, you have zero room. With the convertible, you still have a nice trunk with the top down. Take a look at both and see what suits your needs.

I have an angled trunk partition in my convertible to help protect the top when folded down, plus it helps reduce noise. When the partition is in, I can fit one cart bag full of clubs. When I remove the partition I can carry two cart bags full of clubs in the trunk via the head to toe (69) position.
...yeah I know, get my head out of the gutter!
The convertible trunk provides pretty good carrying capacity if you pack right.

Once you have checked into your hotel or bed and breakfast you put your luggage away and you can fold that top down and enjoy the open air.

I love my coupe, but as others have said, when you put the top in the back you loose space. What I did to be able to keep some space, use soft sided duffle bags for your luggage that way you can smash it around. The top goes in and there is some room under towards the rear. It works for me for two to three day outings.
Note: It also helps to talk to the spouse about vette storage prior to the trip, like NO hard luggage, pack lite and pack like men do, 1 underwear and 1 tooth brush.. Enjoy the compact ride..

I just brought home a small .7 cu ft microwave oven in the box in my coupe. Don't think you could do that with a vert, maybe so though, it fit pretty far back. I usually put my groceries in the pass. seat and floor just to keep them from rolling around in back.

Thanks for the input. I appreciate it. It's a tough call to make. I've always liked the vert, but lately for some reason I'm leaning towards the coupe. We'll see what happens. I'm not rushing into anything right now..
Thanks again!
Thanks again!

I've always been impressed with the amount of cargo we can get in our vert even with the top down. Pack smartly and you should be fine. Two sets of clubs fit with the top down.
For me, it will always be a vert.

Not true. I have a buddy of mine who took a 7 week, 37 state, 12,000 plus mile trip with his coupe. Had the thing packed to the limit and still was able to lay the roof panel on top of the luggage when he wanted the top off.

I took a 2 week road trip with SWMBO with a suitcase, a soft bag, a laptop and there was still room for a case of beer.

And when you slam on the brakes or hit something the top cuts your head off? I stand by my opinion, the convertible has more space with the top down than the coupe does with the top stored (properly).

One thing I can't do in a vert is to take our dachshunds with us. Took our "kids" to the CAC gtg in Colorado Spings in '07 - the C5 was packed full of soft luggage for 2 adults, the travel kennel and even a small cooler. In '09 went to the Black Hills Corvette Classic in our C6 coupe packed trhe same way for a longer trip. That was a tighter fit with the C6 loosing appox 5 inches in trunk length to the C5

Not true! It is a well-known fact that you can "stack" 12 dachshunds, aka "Weiner Dogs" in the trunk of a C5 vert!

The coupe has a lot of room in the hatch area - I have been amazed at the amount of stuff I can carry back there. I would agree that the vert probably has more room than the coupe with the coupe's roof is stored back there. There is a bit of room under the roof when stored and some in front of the roof when in the stored position. But you do lose a lot of area because you can't store anything on top of the roof (without possibly damaging the roof surface).

O.K., I'll give you that one. The convertible Has more room with the top down, then the coupe with the top stored. But I've got to say, on EVERY trip I taken, I've NEVER, EVER put the top in the stored position BEFORE packing the car. Anyway you slice it, 24.8 cubic feet beats 13.9 everytime (and it's 11.2 with the top down!)
