Dyno Tune worth it with just a CAI?
I picked up an '03 Z06 two days ago and the car is bones stock except for a BlackWing(?) CAI and Plenum. Would it be worthwhile to get a dyno tune, or a bit overkill on a mostly stock car? I don't plan to do anything else to add power.
Rick at Synergy Motorsports recommended a dyno tune after he inspected the car. He said it was getting something like 15% more air than optimal. Of course, he also wants the business, so he might be a bit biased. I do know he is considered one of the best tuners though!
Also what kind of gains should I expect with a tune? 10 hp? And what would my RWHP be roughly at? 360-ish?

There is a lot of stuff you can get out of a tune. Here's a link...many more if you search:

Yeah, I am not really planning on any other mods. I was considering a cam, but I think I will just keep the car as-is. Who knows, maybe the mod bug will bite me in 6 months, but I doubt it.

I have a shop that doesn't look, but they do test and I support that. LT's move the O2 Sensor to far down, messing up the readings...

May be better to get a mail order tune from ECS. I am sorry, but 5-10 hp is not worth it for $500, that is of course unless the car is having ping issues from the extra air from the CAI or money is at your disposal .

Haha, I am going to save this and send you a PM within 6 months after you do heads/cam . If you leave the car stock and just enjoy it, you won't mess with it most likely. Once that first mod goes on, the ball starts rollin LOL.

Most tuners only charge you the big bucks, around $500 for the initial tune.
Then, only around $100-200, for retuning for mods. So, you can get the
first tune, now, then one after the headers, then the cam, then the heads, etc.......

Good luck passing smog with LT's here in CA. I researched it, not a good option. May change in '14 when the state changes it to only pulling codes on OBDII cars...

Most CAI arent even effective on a dyno, but rather a drivability tune at good speeds. Even then, it doesn't really matter. Computer can compensate enough itself. Same as it does from a 100* summer day to a 35* winter day. Quite a bit of adjusting.

Yeah, I learned that with my last car that had $10K in mods after a year. That is why I think I can avoid it this time. Been there, done that. Unless I just can't resist....

I'm in CA as well; plenty of smog legal power adders (and a few stealth items that won't cause you to fail)...but yes, it gets pricey. The easiest route is to go with FI with a CARB legal kit.
