Have used Sea Foam many times on many vehicles...on my 200K '95 M3 I do it about every 40K or so before I smog it. (along with a lot of other things) Make sure engine is warm, have it running, suck in half a bottle slowly through a funnel connected to an intake line (on the M3 I use the brake booster line) and hand on the throttle cause it will try to die...keep it running till you get the amount you want in, kill engine. Let is sit 10-20min. Close up every window in the house, hope your neighbors are not home....start car and start reving it to clean it out. Great billows of smoke will come out for 5 or more minutes, the darker they are the dirtier your combustion chamber and or rings were.
I always change the oil the next day....
My Z only has 18K...so not feeling the need. Passed smog easy last week...

look i'm not gonna get in a pissing contest with some know it all over whether or not I THINK seafoam is garbage. thats my opinion & i think i am entitled to it. if you wanna use it, hey good for you. all i was trying to tell him was to be very careful if he sucks it in thru the brake boost line.

Nobody said you're not entitled to your opinion. However, normal, logical, adults have something to back up their opinions with (usually called facts/reasons) instead of lashing out for no reason when they are questioned.
On topic: I've never used seafoam before (never had a high mileage car) but know some people who have and they say it's pretty awesome.
I've actually been thinking about using it on my C5Z because I bought it with 13K on it (has 19.2k now) but it's been sitting there as a garage queen for a while. Can it harm a car in my situation? I don't mean to hijack the thread.
G.Rossman, if you do use it come back with a review!

first of all, i never lashed out at anyone. i simply stated i was not going to get in a pissing contest with a know it all.
i have used seafoam. i didnt not like the results that came from the use of it. i used it in my wrangler once & didnt have any problems. but my avalanche was a different story. it didnt run right for quite some time after using it. i also know others who have used it and also did not like it. some people prefer to use it after so many miles or tanks. i prefer to run a bottle of lucas after about 5 tanks. i hope this will suffice you now to my reasoning.
G. Rossman, i hope it works better for you then it did me is all.

That is interesting...I have been running SEA FOAM in my cars/trucks for years and never experienced anything negative. Sorry to hear. I have used LUCAS and TECHRON, but still like SEA FOAM the best. It is what it is.

Be carefull! No matter which product you use. If you suck it into the engine through a vacuum line you are bringing a liquid into the combustion chamber. Remember - liquids DO NOT COMPRESS! If the engine dies during the process, be sure to let it sit for about 10 minutes before you try to restart it. This will allow time for the raw liquid to evaporate and cause no problem. If you try to restart the engine immediately after it stalls, you are flirting with disaster - you could hydrolock the engine!
Good luck!
I would say the biggest risk with running seafoam is contaminating the O2 sensors or fouling the plugs. Despite the claims on the bottle that it will do neither, the reality is that the carbon that burns off is not good for the plugs or the sensors.
If you overuse it you can also dry out the seals or remove deposits that were actually preventing a leak from developing. This is typically caused by adding it to the crankcase. Since the C5 is filled with synthetic from the factory, I wouldn't even bother using it to clean the crankcase.
I definitely recommend using it in fuel system as well as sucking it up through the intake.
I've used Seafoam on my vehicles and even in my lawn-mower. Never had a problem. I usually run half thru the intake and pour the other half in the gas tank. My Buick (had 200+K miles on it at the time) belched a cumulonimbus cloud that engulfed the cul-de-sac after the Seafoaming...
The naptha might dissolve a little sludge, the alcohol will take care any water and the light oil might lubricate any running works that the actual motor oil doesnt touch. the light oil is what causes the smoke out of the exhaust when you put it through the intake.

The tone of a post is a difficult thing to decipher, it looked like you were prematurely lashing out.
The second paragraph is what should've been included with your opinion. But I digress, it sucks that you had a negative experience with the product. I'm glad the other two work well for you though.

Some know it all? I didn't go into some long drawn out statement about how it's the best product and back it up with a bunch of ridiculous facts and figures that nobody cares about. I simply asked a question, when has sea foam been considered crap?
Life would be much easier on forums if people would just actually give educated reasons for their opinions instead of saying "it sucks". A lot of people like the product, and when I come across someone saying it was crap with no reasons...it strikes me as odd. So I asked a question in hopes that you would explain...and you respond like this.
So how did you get all of that junk you just said out of my 1 sentence long post that was a question? Christ people are touchy these days. Stop being so sensitive and have a discussion.
