Default Odd Water Spray on Acceleration

I just picked up my new to me '03 on Friday. Today I jumped on it hard (probably the most hard acceleration since I bought it) and I believe on the 1-2 shift I got a bit of what looked like water spray from under the hood onto the windshield. I popped the hood and didn't notice anything leaking, though the windshield wiper fluid looks like it may have leaked some before since there is a blue ring around the cap of dried residue.

So does it sound like I am on the right track that this is wiper fluid leaking out? The fluid tank is VERY full, almost to the top. Or is there something else I should be looking for?

So how do I fix this? Just not fill the tank as much? New cap? It would be pretty annoying on an autocross coarse! The cap seemed pretty tight...

Actually - that's normal if you accelerate hard. It doesn't happen all the time. It tripped my out when it happened to me at the drag strip

Very common.... Happens to all of us under hard acceleration.

You can install a simple check valve on the washer fluid line coming off of the fluid pump that is mounted to the reservoir (this line Ts off and leads to the wiper assemblies). The check valve will keep fluid from being drawn out under hard acceleration, but will still allow fluid to flow when the pump is activated. I did this about 4 years ago and it has performed flawlessly. I believe the GM check valve part number is: 22102237. You will also need two short pieces of rubber vacuum hose to install the check valve onto the washer fluid hard line.

Wow, never even thought of this. I could use it.

I know this thread is old, I found it because I have searched but hoped someone could help me out.

Any chance someone can snap a pic of this part installed? I'm looking to see if the direction matters of the valve. For the rest of the install it sounds like I snip the hardline and remove a small section of it, then pick up some vacuum hose that will fit over the existing line and check valve and zip tie the hose to the connections. Thanks for the help.

Yes, the direction of the check valve matters ... it will only flow in one direction, like all check valves do. If it's not marked on the body, then blow in both ends and see which direction is flows in.

Good thread! I've had this happen at some of the track events I've gone to and never figured out what it was. I now run my car with almost no windshield washer fluid (never use it) and some still gets on there. Probably because some is still in the tank but it always freaks me out that I have blown a hose or something.

Thanks Zee0Six for confirming the valve is directional. I will perform the test you suggested.

I posted another thread in FI prior to finding this thread as I initially thought it was related to meth being corrosive to the WW sprayers. I took a couple pictures on my lunch I posted in that thread and one illustrating where I intend to cut the line and install the check valve once it arrives. If you can confirm installing the valve prior to the initial split is kosher it would be appreciated.
