Just a heads up that without a tune to take advantage of higher octane fuel, you are actually throwing your money away and are going to make LESS power. For the most performance, you want to run the lowest octane fuel possible without any knock. If you have a custom tune loaded to take advantage of higher octane fuel you can definitely see gains, but I suspect you are just feeling a placebo effect otherwise.

Unless you have a high compression motor your wasting your money higher octane will not make your car faster with stock comp. octane is the resistance to burn so the higher the octane the higher igition point. low octane gas in a high comp. motor causes pre- detination (spark knock) high octance lower comp. motor causes nothing its a placebo effect!! That is if your motor is stock
High octane gas is not liquid performance its fuel for high comp. motors

As I said, if you have a custom tune that you are uploading just for this fuel type you are going to see gains. If your custom tune is based on "normal" gas you won't. If you do have a custom tune for race gas, how are you swapping tunes? Are you using a handheld tuner? I have been thinking about getting a Diablo Predator so I could do this.

And I don't think anyone was trying to be a jerk. We were trying to save you some money. I have met plenty of people who buy race fuel and think it makes their car run better without a tune. Most people don't know any better.

Grimmy... My car is tuned for 93-100+ octane fuel... You "assumed" i was some JA rice burning kid pumping in liquid HP.. It's laughable really. I have 3 cars and drive the C5Z for fun.. THANK YOU for the lesson though.. Perhaps you should have asked if my car was stock instead of giving me a lecture... just a thought. Not calling anyone a jerk... I posted up, good, bad, no worries here.. we all have opinions.. thank you again for your input... moving forward... back TTT

You didn't answer my question. How are you switching to this race fuel tune? Or do you run race fuel all the time? I have no idea why you are so defensive either. We were trying to help you save $$$$.

Boss,,, not being defensive... I normally run 93 octane.. i threw some 103 octane in today.. Car runs great... I don't run it all of the time.. I simply "Added" it to the existing fuel (93) to try it out... (1/2 tank)

My tuner (shop) actually tried to talk me into tuning for the E85 (alcohol based fuel)?? I am a bit skeptical... They explained it.. doesn't burn like GAS and there are actually several E85 gas stations close to me... Kicking it around, don't know enough about it..

just give OP break, he is not filling this gas all the time, heck for no reason i put 94 octane in my nissan maxima one time, just for the heck of it, to my surprise car ran very smooth and got better gas mileage as well, higher octane burn slow.

Obviously you need to adjust the tune accordingly but who cares for one time filling this gas, it dont hurt for sure nonethless. on top of it, OP's car is not stock either io assumed he's got 11:1 comp atleast or higher and timing must be bumped up, milled heads takes more timing without detonation anyway so 102 octane will defenetly wont hurt.

01Z06: thanks for sharing buddy good to know.

Ethanol actually has less energy per unit than pure gasoline, BUT it has a very high natural octane around 105. So an engine fully tuned to run E85 (fuel maps and delivery) with high compression can make more power on E85 than gasoline.

I assume this was unleaded race gas, correct?
