This is a long story but I will give the short version. Took my 99 to a Goodyear store owned by a close friend because my belt jumped off and I was a block away from his place. Keep in mind the friend is not a mechanic just owns the place. Already had a belt tensioner on order so when it came I took the part to them. Belt still came off, they noticed hamonic Balancer had slid back. Ok you already have it, replace it. I pick the car up and get from the mechanic "you have a bad oil leak and we couldn't tell where it is coming from". My car sits in the garage at home and there has never been a drop of oil of the floor. Question is could they have damaged the seal getting the balancer off? I'm out $500 and have an oil leak but don't won't to lose my friend over this.

wouldnt think they damaged the seal getting the balancer off. If in fact it is from front cover seal, more likely than not the balancer itself damaged the seal when it moved back.
They didn't understand they needed to R&R the front crankshaft seal when they replaced the harmonic balancer. It's. TIRE STORE, not the best place to get repair work done.

I totally agree and in hindsight should have had the car towed to my regular mechanic.
