Hi, Guys: I just have a quick question about the targa top. When the top is on, does it get real hot in the car or is it tinted enough where it's not a problem? I'm hoping it doesn't cause a problem 'cause I'm looking to buy a C5 coupe with the targa top in the near future. Thanks for the input!! Appreciate it.
I have seen other post where members here say it get hot in the summer, but I live in Florida and I don't have a problem with mine. The A/C is good and cold and I don't notice a lot of heat on my head.
If you're talking about the lexan top the answer is yes, it gets extremely hot inside the car. It heats it up so much here in Oklahoma that I got rid of it and only use the solid top.
Yes if the climate you live in gets hot, you best believe the interior will be blazing when you get in the car. However, there are products you can buy to help shield against that effect.

(substituse NY)
It will get hotter than the body color roof when parked but once you get moving, either the AC (which by the way is like nuclear powered, you could pack meat in there) or just the passive flow and it cools off fast. I personally dont notice it when I use the car and love the clear roof .
I only use my lexan top in the winter when it's cooler and the sun is not directly overhead. In the summer, no way. It gets put away and the solid one goes on.
By the way, too much heat and uv on the lexan top is what causes them to discolor.
I feel like the other factor in consideration is if you have tint on the car. I have the ceramic pinnacle tint on my black on black coupe. I do feel like it does keep the car cooler when it sits. I am in NC and I keep the lexan roof on all summer. However I don't usually drive it where it will be left outside all day if it is above 93 or so...Don't get me wrong, it gets hot, but not scary hot.
I live in Concord California, I have a 1999 C5 black ext. with black int., with a tinted targa top. In the sun, the interior can't be used, plus the AC has a hard time dropping the temps. But here are some products that will help. I purchased the solid shade and leave it on 99% of the time.

sweat ya eyes off
i only put the glass one on in winter. then its nice to have
It dosent get much hotter than New Orleans and we have never had a problem, even with the a/c on low speeds.I sold the solid top as it never ever was put on.
I live in NY and it gets very hot when parked in direct sunlight.
I throw a rag over the steering wheel to keep it cooler when I have it parked at work.
On the hottest days with the sun shining directly on the lexan top it may feel a bit warm but not warm enough to be uncomfortable. The AC is powerful enough to maintain a very reasonable cabin temperature even on hot days.
