I have committed to buy a set of 04 Z06 wheels that were taken off when the car was new. I have to make a 200 mile round trip to pick them up which will still be cheaper than freight I think. Is $300.00 plus gas a decent deal for new speedlines?
What type of lugs were used on the 04 speedine painted wheels? Or more importantly what looks/works best with those wheels?

It really depend on the condition of the wheels. I sold my polished aluminum thin spokes for $400.00 a while back but they were in excellent condition. I would think that these should be in excellent condition if they were removed when the car was new, that is as long as they have not been kicked around over the years.

Id say thats a good deal. I have an absolute perfect set that I wouldnt let go for under $600.

I would be tempted by a deal like that as the polished thin spokes are beautiful wheels but I wanted the beefier size of the Z06 wheel. I keep telling myself that I will polish these wheels out, but I shouldn't hold my breath till it's done. My next choice up the ladder would have been a set of Alcoa's, then the Z16 wheels and my money is no object choice would have been polished CCW's or Fikse wheels.
Good condition C5 Z06 wheels are normally $600-$800. $300 is a great deal. 200 miles/ 25 mpg = 8 gallons @ $4.00 gal = $32 bucks. The whole purchase sounds like a great deal.
Oh, it will be tight putting the 4 wheels in a Corvette. You will have to use the passenger seat. Be sure to bring towels or some sort of padding.

That's 75 bucks per wheel! If like you say they were taken off when car was new, that's a great price in my mind. Only thing is, I think GM used to put the wheel weights on the outside lip, hammered on it seems. When you remove the weights, the paint could me damaged underneath. But for 300 bucks, no biggie. Little spot puddy, touchup paint, 1500/2000 wet/dry sandpaper, and your good to go!
I paid $500 last year, but came with Nitto 555r's. Even without tires, I felt I got a good deal at 500 bucks, even though I had to do some "touchup" work.
Like new C5Z wheels for $300= no brainer to me!
edit: on your question on lugs, I went with black.

Will be picking them up in my 95 Impala SS. Almost as good mileage and a lot more room. I could go in my Titan pickup but it loves to burn fuel, now if I were bringing back a couple of tons of goodies.....
Drove up to Louisville to pick up the wheels and they were as advertised! I couldn't be more pleased. Another set of wagon wheels bites the dust. I took a few pics of one of the front wheels. I didn't realize that the finish on the wheels was as slick and glossy as they turned out to be.
No weights ever attached to the front lip, no chips, no scars, no scratches and no curbing.
The amazing thing to me about this situation is that the owner of this new Z06 wanted chrome wheels, so he took these off and bought chrome repo's. These wheels had been stored in the repo boxes since day one. At least that's one plus to repo wheels. I prefer a polished wheel myself, but I don't think I would chose repo's over these.
Nice score! I replaced the wagon wheels on my '99 coupe with Speedline C5 Z06 wheels back in 2004. My Speedline wheels were take-offs as well: the vehicle owner wanted chrome wheels. Give me the OEM validated, painted wheels, please. I paid $800 for them, which was a screaming deal at the time. Heck, I have bought your wheels for $300 just to have as spares!
