Default Difference in Z06

I have an 02 Vert. All stock except for Mid-American Quad Power Exhaust. What all would I have to add to my engine to make the same or more power than a C5 Z06. I have a friend with an 03 Z06 that's all stock and his really seems a lot faster than the Vert. Would love to add a few things and surprise him the next time we go to drag night. Don't have the money for superchargers or anything like that. Somewhere around a $1000 budget. Anymore than that the wife would find out, not good Would love to keep everything looking stock and just let him think his Z06 is just running crappy. I know, it's mean but you'd have to meet this guy, you'd love to do the same thing too. To him, his Z06 is so much better than my Vert and why did I buy that etc...etc... You know the type. Open to suggestions, please bring them on.
Thanks guys
Dave P.

You need at add about 60 more HP, Lose a couple hundred pounds off the car and change your transmission gearing. Then maybe it will be close.

Keeping it under 1000 bucks won't get close, Especially if you have an A4 with 2:73 gears.
If you have an A4 with 2:73 gears you are looking well over the 1000 mark just for the gears and install. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, But it will cost you well over your 1000 mark no matter what. HP isn't cheap.

It has the 6 Speed tranny. I know I'm dreaming at the $1000 mark but maybe I can find some good ebay buys or you guys have come through for me in the past. Thought about a 100 shot of nitrous but I've heard so many horror stories.

I am in the same boat. I just bought an 02 Vert and would love to know how to get 400hp out of it. Why would you need to change the gears? I'm sure the 6 speed would do just fine with another 50hp.

I would say that a 100-150 shot will do it, It is very safe if done right. Car would need to be tuned for it.

Mr bill is right HP cost $$$ wanna play u gotta pay. If you have 2.73 gears thats more for top end not drag racing his 3.42's and extra hp lightweight are going to be too much. Now nos would definitely help. But the tune alone is around 4-500$ + a good nos kit. He will probably catch on u have nos though. Good luck.

Cold air intake: $250
Headers: $1200-1500 + $400 installation
Cam + install: $2000
Dyno tune: $500

You would need about $5k to beat the Z06. However, the cheapest route would definitely be nitrous.

Gears + nitrous he can, much cheaper option than what your thinking lol it's still "beating" him

His car might be faster down the strip but ask him how long it takes him to put the top down vs. you putting yours down. Nothing like a little top-down crusing to put a smile on your face.

Honestly... 100 shot of nitrous and you'll be faster.

OK fine no nitrous... heads, cam, transmission, diff, tune, loose some weight.

Race cars were never convertibles? Tell that to all the Cobra's, formula 1's, that beautiful 63 Grand Sport. I say the best race cars were convertibles. Now if you said drag racers are not convertibles, I might agree but then again you can say top fuel dragster's are convertibles and on and on and on. Opening up a can of worms on that one.

Where I really only want it fast on race day, I'm kind of leaning toward the N2O kit. Got some great e-mails from guys telling me, for the kind of money I have to spend, the only way I will beat a Z is with the Nitrous. What to you guys think? Anyone out there with a stock Vette running N2O that spanks Z's with their N2O kit. I see complete kits with bottle warmers, remote bottle openers and all the goodies you need to go fast for the money I have. Really sounds fun. Someone with a kit on their car, please tell me what you think and what it will cost me in a long run.
Thanks
Dave

He has established that he does not need a rear end. He said the car was a 6sp , so it has a 3.42 already.

He needs a good cam and a tune and he may be close, but that is still more than 1K.
