Recently saw an ad for LED map light bulb replacement for greater interior illumination. Has anyone done such a replacement and how difficult is such a replacement to avoid damage? I have a 2001 C5 convertible. Please list proper steps to avoid damage during map light bulb replacement.
I got the LED bulbs. The installation wasn't hard. Remove the mirror from the windshield mount. Just be careful when pushing in the bulbs-they are very delicate and the ends could bend. You'll need to rotate the bulbs so that the LEDs face down. Also, you don't want to knock the bulb contacts out of position-it's a pain to put them back. Also, not the polarity issue with LED bulbs-they need to be installed with the correct polarity.
I have bulbs blown in the rear owe mirror...they're clusters of 6 which go on the underside of the mirror, passenger side and driver side. My local "Chevy" dealer/parts person told me I had to replace the entire mirror because of 2 shot cheap lights....they appear to be serviceable, since they were so easy to get out and unplug. BUT I CAN'T LOCATE ANY REPLACEMENT. I've called everywhere, sent pictures of what I took out, no one has any idea! No wonder GM needed "bailout" $.
