I have a 1998 C5. Currently, I have Z06 aftermarket wheels on the car. I will be installing 275/40-17 on the front and 285/35-18 on the rear. Will this setup effect the function of the ABS? The reason for this question is the salesman at Tire Rack said changing the diameter of the tires might cause the ABS not to function properly???
Is this true?

As long as you keep the approximately 1" overall diameter between the front and rear tires, you should not have any problems with the ABS. Not sure if you would have any clearance problems with the 275 fronts.
Any reason you wouldn't want to go with the stock Z06 size tires front and rear?

Yes the Tire Rack guys is right... it "can" cause issues. Always try to stay as close as you can to the stock diameter. A tiny bit bigger than stock even helps fill in the wheel well a little better. If you increase the back Diameter a pinch, make sure to increase the front diameter a pinch too.
Your rear 285 will look a bit smaller than stock. Might not look so good.
