Default Headers

Has anybody bought these headers and cats. Really a nice looking system and seems like a great price at only $850 shipped to your home.
OBX Header Chevy Corvette 01-04 LS1 5.7L C5 With Cats ebay item number 180708847290.
Thanks

I've been shopping and doing research on headers myself, and I looked into these. Reading various forums and talking on the phone to some installers who have had first hand experience with them, I learned a few things about OBX headers.

It seems they are Chinese knock-offs, with somewhat poor quality control. Some folks say they slipped right in and they love them. Others say they were a nightmare. If you Google "obx headers broken weld" you will find numerous hits. An installer I trust warned me that fit is especially important in a C5, and he's had problems with OBX that rattle and clank after the install.

If you check out their web site: OBX Racing Sports and look at exhaust products, you will find one listing for 2010+ Camaro, and all the rest for Mazda and Acura. No mention is made on their site of headers for Corvette. The only way I've been able to find any reference to OBX headers for Corvettes, is to follow their links to "Authorized Dealers" or look on eBay. You say you found an eBay listing advertising $850. Their "Authorized Dealers" have them for $650.

I decided that I would limit my search to "Made in the U.S.A." only, and pay a little more for something with a good rep and known good customer service. I'm really leaning toward LG Street Series.

I dismissed them from my short list. It was either Dynatechs or LG Streets. Found a good deal here on a set of Dynamaxx. Look great, fit well. I couldn't be happier.

another alternative for budget priced headers is xspower. Search and there are several threads on them. They often run a forum special, and the fit an finish is good. I put them on recently, and so far am happy. Since they are made in America, and sold on forum customer support is great as well. You can get into them for a bit more than OBX, and a lot less than lg. They also come with header and x-pipe all the way back to stock cat, and have a built in wideband port.

I believe a forum vendor even dropped OBX after fitting issues and no support from the company.

For you I would suggest the LG streets. Only $400 more and you will have support if you need it.

The OBXs seem to be getting traction over on a camaro forum I sponsor. Id rather spend the couple hundred more on a known brand.

From seeing OBX first hand on the Gen 5 Camaro and C5 Corvette I was not impressed with it's finish, quality of parts or power. I'd recommend a set of TSP headers if looking for a budget exhaust or I happen to be an American Racing dealer and can get you a good price.

I think the price of just about every long tube system is BS personally. Ever price a full system for a c4 or older? How about for the F-bodies? Hundreds less and are just as intricate as those of the c5 and c6....sorry to get off topic, and its not a shot at any of the vendors, it has to do with the manufacturers.

That being said, OP you should look into the XS Power headers they were on special recently and many on the forum swear by em. Food for thought.

Thanks guys, I think I'll take your advice on this one but just because it says it was made in China doesn't mean it's junk. I just put a made in China, Mid America quadrapower exhaust system on my 02 convertible and just love it. The finish is beautiful and the tone is just what I wanted. Loud enough to sound mean but quiet at cruising speeds. I'll check into what you advised. Got the catback, have a blackwing air cleaner coming and have a lead on a set of 03 Z06 heads, cam and lifters. Look out Z06 I'm getting close.

I agree, not all of it is, but you definitely get what you pay for sometimes. Imho if you are going through the trouble of changing the cam out, then there is much more power to be had with an aftermarket cam and it doesn't have to be radical. IE check out the one in my sig below
