I put the C6 shifter from corvetterecyling.com on my Z16. And picked up a **** here from a forum member. Total cost less than $100. Hard to do that with "name" brands. Not knocking them. Had a Ripper in my 2000. But a budget is a budget.
Tried Hurst, B&M and stock. Now have the final shifter installed. MGW all day long!! Just be crafty and buy a slightly used unit. I paid $200. SHIPPED from a forum member.... oh, that included the nice MGW **** too!!
MGW for me all the way with their pistol grip ****. I might even get another **** from them just to change it up at times. I drove a Z with a C6 shifter, it was nice but I liked the MGW better.
They're not cheap compared to other shifters but they're worth it in my opinion.
MTI Six Shooter. No rattle, no noise. Notchy but not terrible. Real nice "mechanical" feel. It's a middle ground shifter in between the C6 and Hurst/MGW shifters
A plethora of sites offering how to's. Mine's aftermarket but I did not personally do the install (was there when I bought the car). From what I've read, it looks to be an hour and half to two hour job, depending on your comfort level dealing with the console/bezel removal. Keeping in mind that is speculation on my part.
I have a B&M Ripper. It's very mechanical and notchy feeling and does require more effort to get in gear. I like the positive feeling I get when grabbing gears but the the amount of effort it takes gets old when you are just cruising around.
I'm going to be doing the Anti Venom mod to hopefully rectify this issue. Most guy's seem to love their B&M's after performing this cheap and easy mod.

I have the same shifter as you do and after the Anti Venom mod... Just WOW ! Slicker than **** !
it's extremely easy to change shifters. Only hard part was the stupid "demon key" pin in the stock shifter. Even with resorting to cursing, screaming, and beer break the whole install took....30 minutes tops. It really is a pretty straight forward swap. Just make sure to take your time and triple check the shifter is perfectly aligned.
Your post is actually what made me decide to give this mod a try. I already purchased the washers from Napa so hopefully I can find time to get the vette in the air and get it done.
