Congrats on the purchase of your Corvette.
You found & picked out a rare one & with low milage.
A Hurst shifter will be quite hard to get in reverse & through the other gears.
I suggest, if possible, to drive severeral other Z 06's with various different shifters. This will give you an idea of what feels best for you.
I've had severeral different shifters through out the years & each one has their good/bad points.
I noticed that you are here in Michigan. If you come by to my area, you can drive my Z, I have a Hurst in at at this time.
I also have a Snap shifter on the shelf that we could see how you like that one, compared to the Hurst.
I really think you may like the C/6 Z 06 style shifter.
They have an angle shaft instead of straight one.
There is a vendor that sells this newer shifter with the **** threads to accept our C/5 *****.
The vendor in question is Steve @ RSD Race Specialty Design. This particular shifter is called a "Snap Shifter".
You would be getting a new C/6 shift box & shifter.
I'm quite sure you would like it.
Good luck.

Default I Agree..

I have the shortened bent towards the rear C6 Z06 shifter on my 04 CE Z06 with 8K and I really like it.

Met George Ciamillo from MGW at a track event and he has a shifter for our cars. Take a look and also give him a call he had some ideas on how to improve the shifter

You won't get a consensus of opinion on shifters. And if you search the archives (in C5 Tech) about shifters, you'll realize some owners change shifters as often as they change their underwear.

I also have a Z16 and researched which shifter to use. I wasn't really unhappy w/ the oem shifter so I just shortened it 3/4". That worked fine but mostly from a cosmetic standpoint. The C6/Z06, MGW and SNAP shifters were not available at that time.

To avoid vibrations and noise into the cabin (which many billet shifters allow to occur), I finally decided on a B&M "Sport" shifter. It has a rubber isolation lever similar to the oem shifter and causes no vibrations. I am not unhappy with the decision.

I have a B&M shifter and love it compared to the stock Semi truck shifter...

However... when going to a short shifter you will need a little more effort from you to shift. Its the nature of the beast when raising the axis point of the shifter, and shortening the stick.

Keep the below post in mind if you find the shifting effort too much for you. This will loosen things back up for you.'

MGW is the only way to go. No vibration at all... If there is a set back with the MGW, takes a little while to break in. If I was to purchase another vette, I'd still purchase the MGW, only way to go... Just my .02 cents..

C6Z, MGW, and MTI six shooter are all good choices. Me, I wanted a stock feel but more ergonomic that the stock C5Z shifter. The C6Z shifter fit the bill...

I'm running a Hurst and have no complaints. There is no comparison to stock, which in my opinion is very loose and vague feeling. That includes the C6 stock shifter. I don't know why so many people are in love with that.

Personal preference...some like blondes, some like brunettes.

I don't like the "click-click" mechanical feel that I've felt on most cars equipped with Hurst, which I'm sure you would describe as "precise" based on your C6 feedback.

Never felt an MGW that everyone raves about, but drove a car with an MTI six shooter, and I would definately be pleased with that...but I already had my C6Z installed.

You are 100% correct. I love the mechanical or precise feel of the Hurst. To each his own as you said.

I highly recommend the C6 shifter, the action is really smooth and precise. You can also find them much cheaper than any aftermarket kit.

I've got one in my C5Z and wouldn't trade it for any of the aftermarket shifters I've tried.

Take the money you saved on that and put it towards headers and an intake.
