Anybody ever have any paint damage from hail, either driving through it or just having the car outside exposed to falling hail? I got caught out yesterday in a light hail storm and when I back the car out of the garage today to clean it I noticed paint chips in my hood. Now my car was not completely devoid of rock chips on the nose but these are better than half way up to the windshield.
In general I have read quite a few stories that related little or no damage to their vette during hail that damaged other vehicles. But I could see it chipping paint on the hood. Glad you came away (relatively) unscathed.
I just remember hail storms when I was a kid growing up in Texas. Can never forget once seeing homes in a trailer park that looked like they had been beaten severely with a ball peen hammer. Never realized 'til then how much damage that type of weather caused. Unbelievable.
I feel for you on the damage to your car. If the damage is due to this act of nature, do you think your insurance might foot the bill? Maybe time for new paint. I'ld definitely be checking that out.

I would guess that if the hail was big enough it could do some paint damage on the car. Never (thankfully) have been caught out in a hail storm in the Vette.
A friend of mine and I were caught in the same hail storm in OKC a few years back. He was in his C5 Coupe and I was in a Tahoe. My Tahoe got $5,000 damage, his C5 was none the worse for the wear.
I also got caught in a hail storm near OKC. I would estimate the hail size to be between nickel and quarter size. I couldn't believe it didn't break the windshield. Other cars in the storm had damage that I could see from 50 feet away. The C4 I was driving came through that without any damage; PERIOD. These plastic cars that sometimes get totaled in a fender bender can sure take a beating from hail.

I am always very nervous about getting caught in a hail storm in a vert..somehow I think the canvas roof will take the brunt of the damage?!? Rob
I may take it in to be looked over. My insurance company has a local office for their adjusters with a garage just for auto inspection and estimates. I have very few rock chips on the rockers in 55K miles of driving but I am always thinking, if this was a sheet metal car it would already be showing some rust. Goes back to my youth when the first car I ever bought new was a 1975 Monte Carlo. That car literally rusted away in front of my eyes.
