So, ever since I got my car a few weeks ago, whenever I change gears, it goes in just fine, but when I let the clutch out, it jolts forward in every change except 5 to 6. At first I just figured it was just that I wasn't used to the car, but now that its been a few weeks, I'm not not so sure thats the case. I've tried letting the clutch out slower, and letting it out faster, and nothing seems to change it
Anyone have any ideas what the issue could be? Please and Thank You
Well... I'm not exactly sure how to explain it, but I guess its sort of like when you downshift without rev-matching, except without slowing down. Not sure if that helps.
I can do it if it's pretty much the same as any other car, unless it would be worth it to just spend a few extra bucks and take it to an EZ lube or something, but I'll check it in the morning to see if it even needs changed. Just over 60,000 on the car. Think it's time for a change?

Without a doubt it is time for a clutch fluid flush and change!

I change my clutch fluid every couple months. You can do it with a turkey baster.
You just bought the car... do you have any mechanical history on the ca???? a clutch change??? especially an aluminum flywheel... will cause this condition.

My '04 Coupe MN6 does the same thing and it has 48,000 miles.
I just got it few months ago and thought the same thing that I'm just not used to letting the clutch out smoothly since I have not owned a stick in 20 years.
I also want to know if it helps your situation as I may have t get mine done too.
Are you sure you're not waiting too long with the clutch disengaged and letting the RPMs drop too much before you release the clutch again to change gears? This would give you that lurch feeling similar to downshifting without rev-matching.

This was my first thought, as I was learning to drive my first manual shift car I felt this as I would take too long to shift. Try to make sure you are completely off the throttle before you push the clutch in, then shift fairly quick and get back on the throttle as the clutch is almost fully out. Dont pop the clutch out then a half second later push the throttle, this will cause a bit of driveline windup and make the car feel like its surging. On my AWD subaru this effect was even worse from all the various drivetrain components twisting and flexing.

You actually don't have to do the shift fast, slow down a little and blip the throttle in the middle of your shift. I have a low mileage 6spd and I am a better motorcycle rider than a car driver...the throttle blip helped smooth out all my shifts
on knowing the car history.
The clutch may have been changed to a racing clutch, something more heavier duty than stock. It would give you that feeling shifting gears.
Checked the fluid today, and it is a dirty brown... I'm going to take it down and have it done this weekend. Needs an oil change and air filter too, so I'll just have them done at the same time, and see if it helps.

What about your shifting??? Look at your tach, and when you upshift, if your RPMs jump up when you release the clutch pedal after shifting into the next higher gear, then you either need to shift more quickly or blip the throttle a bit before engaging the clutch so as to rev-match.
