The 98 EBCM CAN be rebuilt sometimes, though I found a new one on the forum for a decent price a couple of years ago and it's been fine since. Some people act like sub-2001 vettes are the plague or something. Tons of happy owners here on the forums, my 98 has every option besides hud and active handling. Personally the only point in spending more for a 2001+ is if you are going to go Z06.
My 98 is at 136k, the entire drivetrain is built so I can't speak for those issues, but I've had no problems in 32k of ownership that I haven't seen on other vettes with less miles such as the AC actuator or the dim dual zone unit, and the occasional memory acting weird as already stated lol. It sounds like you work on your own car, most stuff on these is not bad to work on anyway, especially with lift access.

Yes, but I only drive to school which is about a ten minute drive, I suppose I'll look around, the fact that its at a dealership is a positive for me
Maybe I'll tell em I won't buy it unless they swap in the newer EBCM
If you only drive 10 minutes to school why do you want the vette? You won't even warm it up.
I would not have a 13-year-old vette as my only car.

My only car was my 98 until I bought my 04, which will be my only car again once I sell the 98. If I need something with more utility I'll rent a truck from home depot.

I hear those trucks come with a dolly and someone to push it.
I can't understand why so many members here scare people away from looking to get in a C5 Vette below the year 2001. If the car is in nice shape $10-15k for a '97-'2000 C5 is not a lot of money to spend for a used car today especially on a Corvette. Some of you need to step back and look at what the new ones are going for. $10-$15k today is like spending $5,000 to $7,500 not too long ago being money is not worth what it use to be 10-15 years ago. We all know that today. Back in the late 90's gasolene could be bought for 99 cents a gallon. I guess some of you forgot or were not old enough to drive then. Compare that to todays prices. Should tell you something about what your money is worth. If someone can get themselves into a nice C5 for under $15k I say go for it. Remember these cars were supposely made to go 200k miles the way they were built. Love my '99. Not a everyday car for me to get around with but when I want to drive it I have to say I really enjoy driving it. I wouldn't worry about buying a Corvette from '97-'2000 at all like I wouldn't worry about buying a older C2 or C3 that I also own if I was into buying another one. Its like buying any other used car. You need to see it for yourself, take it for a ride and look it over real well. I am sure the dealer will have some sort of warranty even if it only be 30 days out the door. If not oh well you wouldn't get one anyway buying from a private party. Florida has plenty of older drivers. From the pictures although not very good ones the car looks to be in nice shape. Could of been a older repsonsible driver that used the car to just get around not race or beat it. Being it still has its original wagon wheels on the car it tells me something. Probably not any mods either. Maybe older responsible drivers. May be a good buy for someone. Go and look at the car and drive it and then look at what other used car in comparison could be bought for the same amount of money. I would say not many and none that compare to the C5.
I turned em down, I love my cobalt too much, as sad as that sounds haha, and I should be on par with a c5 vette power wise...just power going to the wrong wheels

That's great and I would buy a dozen of them at that price, but I'll still keep my Crown Vic as my dd.
The Vettes are great but it can be a bit of a pain if it's your only car and the TPMS stops working or the VATS terminals in the ignition cylinder break or the starter relay fries or the clutch pedal switch stops working or if you get a pinhole leak in your CV boot and grease flings all over the place or your grounds start corroding and your headlights won't come up or your gas door relay gives out or the serial data cable on your door shorts out and the window and locks won't work or your blower motor controller fries and you lose your fans. Or any of another 1,000 things that can go wrong.

It's unfortunate tht swapping the EBCM is more involved that what you think...If it were that easy everyone would do it..BTW unless the car is 'throwing' codes, the EBCM is likely good for the long haul.

What happen? They offer you to little for the cobalt? I just did a wholesale run on your cobalt and it showed $5,600 in good condition,if you don't mind, can you tell us how much they offer you? We know the offer does not represent the value of your car. Wanted to see how far they wanted to stick it to you.

I would have trader it right away if your offer 9.5k.
I go to auto auctions and colbalts ss with arounf 50k on the clock go for 5 to 6k. You must have been looking to trade up on a car where the dealer had a huge mark up already.I would had with no doubt trader for the vette for an extra 1.5k, Good Luck
