I want to buy a low profile floor jack. I would use this mainly for
cleaning my wheels and I want to paint my rotors. I was wandering about one from harbor freight, any reccommendations would be
helpful.
thanks-jerry
If you already have a no low profile jack, save yourself some $$$$ and just make a set of so called "ramps". Two levels of 2 x12 with beveled edges, top level shorter than the bottom and drive right on up. It works for me, enough to get the jack under.
Harbor freight has a nice selection of low profile jacks. I've got two of them and highly recommend them. There is a sale running right now on one. It is a rapid pump jack, only $59. I'm thinking of getting one of these as well. I like the quick pump idea. You probably should pick up some jacking pucks too. Good luck on your search.
I just purchased one (1 1/2 ton) after reviewing some of the threads. It works great and is low enough to insert a couple of 2x6's for bracing with jack stands.
With proper maintenance, it should last a long time.
For me, the HF aluminum low profile jack seems perfect.
Been using mine for over 2 1/2 yrs, 2-4 times a month - no issues. Got it for 59.99 with coupon. Best deal going.
I tried the Craftsman with 1 yr warranty, but the wheel caster locked up under load and scratched my floor so I returned it after 1 month and got another. It started leaking and when I tried to return it, I was told after 3 mos you have to send it off to get it repaired. It would have cost me more in shipping than the jack. Trashed it and haven't bought anymore Craftsman stuff and never will.

The 1.5 ton compact is decent because it is super light, but it only goes up to 14". The 1.5 full size is better because it only weighs a few lbs more but it can lift all the way up to 18". With the coupon, the full size comes out to $99. It's a great jack.
I bought the Harbor Freight jack a few years back and love it. I'm sure you can buy a better one for a few hundred bucks but for what I use it for it works great
My 2004 C5 has not been lowered, it's stock height. The clearance from the face of my pucks to the floor is 4-1/2", thus several of the HF floor jacks will work just fine with pucks.
Can anyone tell me the clearance in inches, from the floor to both the front and rear aluminum cross members?
This is what I have in mind, and I would like to insure that whatever I settle on will work like this...
Front
Rear

I use the $59 HF special. They're pretty good. That 1.5 ton rating is no joke, don't try to lift a pickup truck from the center of the engine crossmember because it will blow out the seals. They work great for the Vette though.
