After much searching I have still not been able to find out what the deal is with my passenger foglight housing. Is it easier to access the housing from under the car or from the top? Appears I would need to remove the whole headlight assembly if I go through the top.

Yeah and the headlight assembly is easier to remove from under.

Thing is, I believe I tried this before and could figure out how in sweet baby Jesus' name to move the brake vent out of the way.

There is an access pannel under the bumper that is held by like 6 small screws/bolts. You can access it both ways, and if you open your hood, raise the headlights, take the black cover by removing 3 phillips screws is also easy to do.

 

I can remove the bulb that way but I can't see removing the whole assembly like that.

When I changed out my foglight housings for cold-air versions, I found I had to access them from the top to get the screws out but took the housings out from the bottom. It involved some disassembly of the headlight housing. The new ones went in from the bottom but had to be fastened from the top - one of them by feel only.

It's held on there by two bolts to the frame. If you can get to your bulbs, you should be able to take the whole assembly off easy.

 

Here are instructions for a Vararam installation. You have to remove the foglight housings to install a Vararam. Just follow what is pertinent to your application. I am assuming you want to remove the housing.

Fog Lamp Bulb Replacement - Front
Removal Procedure
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
2. Remove the front fascia lower close out panel. Refer to Close Out Panel - Front Bumper Fascia Lower in Bumpers.

3. Release the brake caliper cooling duct from the front fascia and position the duct aside.


4. Disconnect the front fog lamp electrical connector from the fog lamp bulb/socket.





Caution
Halogen bulbs contain gas under pressure. Handling a bulb improperly could cause it to shatter into flying glass fragments. To help avoid personal injury:
o Turn off the lamp switch and allow the bulb to cool before changing the bulb.
o Leave the lamp switch OFF until the bulb change is complete.
o Always wear eye protection when changing a halogen bulb.
o Handle the bulb only by its base. Avoid touching the glass.
o Keep dirt and moisture off the bulb.
o Properly dispose of the used bulb.
o Keep halogen bulbs out of the reach of children.

5. Remove the fog lamp bulb/socket from the fog lamp.
6. Rotate the fog lamp bulb/socket counter-clockwise to release it from fog lamp.


Installation Procedure
1. Install the fog lamp bulb/socket to the fog lamp.
2. Rotate the fog lamp bulb/socket clockwise to secure it to the fog lamp.
3. Connect the front fog lamp electrical connector to the fog lamp bulb/socket.
4. Position the brake caliper cooling duct to the front fascia, and press to secure.
5. Install the front fascia lower close out panel. Refer to Close Out Panel - Front Bumper Fascia Lower in Bumpers.
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Check and adjust fog lamp aim as necessary. Refer to Fog Lamp Aiming Procedure

 

After reading through those two sets of instructions, I would think it is easier to go through the bottom to remove the fog light housings. Good luck getting them out.

 

I just did this mod today and I can honestly say it is a PITA! I did just as K9leader suggested. I was able to get all of the screws out from above by just removing the headlight shroud. I was then able to slide the housing out to the side and drop it out where the access cover was removed. I had to do both inboard bolts by feel, I ended up taping the screws to the nut-driver to keep them inplace while I lined up everything. I was much faster on the second one, learned all of the hard lessons.

After sitting down afterwards, I do wish I had considered just drilling the originals from the front!
