I just did a search on home made ramps and got some good ideas and plans. I'm curious tho'. Is it possible to do anything under the car on the ground? I've seen some threads about oil change, CAGS chip installation and exhaust mods, and they all seem to require raising the vehicle. I must say I AM spoiled because most of my vehicles that I go under for service were either 4x4's or my RV.
How high would the bretheren and sisteren consider the minimum for ramps/platforms for basic service?
Thanks!!
From the ground to the bottom of the tires, I would suggest 13-14 inches.
You would be able lay on a creeper & roll from end to end on a lowered C/5.
Good luck.
If you are planning on building a set of rams out of wood like many here (including myself) have done, that is only to allow you to get a jack under the car at the front and rear cross members. you will not be able to get under the car even at stock height on a set of simple ramps. The clearance is something like 5 & 1/2" from the ground to the jacking puck locations , so you will need a lot of 2x12's stacked to get the car high enough to work on it.

When I made the op, I had pix of ramps+ platforms I saw on a thread from 2006 in mind. I want to get the whole car in the air and not have to jack or use jackstands. Tho' I don't have a garage, I'm amenable to creating a portable setup.
A set of Race Ramps service ramps and wheel cribs will be a lot easier on your back then moving large wooden ramps around. They will also be easier to store in your basement than trying to get your wooden ramps out of the weather if you don't have a garage.
Right now the RR-XT-2 ramps have a $25 rebate offer and Reverse Logic is throwing in a pair of wheel chocks on any RR-XT-2 orders.

Honestly, I don't see how you could do much of anything to the car without the car being raised - either on a floor jack with jack stands or on ramps. I know I can not reach anything when the car is sitting on the tires and I want to do something.

I don't have my car yet, so I have no clue, but that's what I wanted to know. Maybe 4 decent sized ramps w/o the middle platform is a better way to go....
I use and recommend Race Ramps. I have the 56 inch 2 piece ramps which lift the car 8" and have plenty of space to work underneath. I also have a set of 2 piece wheel cribs for the rear. You can also purchase their 67 inch ramps which raise the car 10". All Race Ramps are super light-weight and skid free. Also, I want to metion that their customer service is second to none.
Rhino Ramps work fine as well.. I'm lowered max on stock bolts and I can still use them fine, you'll hit the rubber air dam sides, but that's it.. I do plan on either making some new ramps or purchasing some race ramps later on though..

It's not likely that there will be a 15% discount this November or December. Race Ramps just launched a $25 Factory Rebate offer that runs from 01-Oct-2011 to 31-Dec-2011. The rebate applies to the most popular service ramps, trailer ramps, and Flatstoppers.
The price including shipping for the RR-XT-2 two-piece 67" ramps at Reverse Logic is $309 after the rebate. For any RR-XT-2 order Reverse Logic is throwing in a pair of heavy duty wheel chocks. That brings the effective price of the ramps down to about $282. You won't find a better deal than this unless you get a set of used ramps from another forum member.

Here is the ones I use for the basics, oil change etc. Order on line and pick up at your local store. Used them for 8 years, no problem. Would like a lift, but height restrictions in garage. Not affliated with this company, just passing info on to members.
