As I draw ever nearer to the day I can purchase a C5, something occurred to me. I have never bought anything for more than $4000 from a private party where I just carried the cash with me and did the deal.
Now that I'm looking at paying cash for something around $20K, I'm rather naive of the procedure for pulling that off. When I go, maybe, 60-100 miles to view a car that has the potential to be "the one", do I stash a wad of bills on me somewhere, in a briefcase, hire a bodyguard...;-)
Most guys want cash don't they? How do y'all deal with that?
this is one of the reasons i still deal with a national bank. i just get money orders or have them follow me to the bank to get the money. do not carry that much money around with you man. if they truely want to sell the car they would care enough to follow you to the bank to get cash or a cashiers check. if you carry around 20k in cash, i am coming to rob you. lol
When you pick it out and decide, go to the bank and get a cashier's check for the seller, in the seller's name.
Problem is, these days my only day off is Sundays so, if I drive 100 miles to see one, it's 100 miles back then 100 miles again IF I can swing another day off and find a friend to go with me...
OP : just carry a cashiers check then. i couldnt carry that much cash cuz i would end up changing my mine on the deal after seeing what 20000 dollars in CASH looks like.. lol
Cash is king! I have ccw permit and Iam always packin. Take a friend.
Yeah but FBI stats say that over 90% of people with a CCW dont practice near enough to actually be effective. Seeing as how I have spent every day for the last 18 years working on a firing range. I would tend to agree. Stick with a cashiers check.
Do what I do check out the car, if you are going to purchase it both you and the seller go to the bank and have a cashiers check drafted to the seller. This way there is no fraud on either end.
DO NOT carry that much cash. GO to the bank !!! Bank not open, get a room till tomorrow. There are people out there set your azz up ! Happens all the time.
We found my son's Ferrari F360 in Indianapolis. Got on a flight from Ct. , looked at the car then did a wire transfer. Done deal both easy and safe for both the buyer and the seller.
Most national banks in my area have an office open on Sunday, even in a grocery stores. Just check the area that the car is in and see if they have a branch open on Sunday. As for a gun, I agree with baxsom leave it home I have a CCW and shoot two times a week and still would get a check..... Good luck on your future purchase.
make a day drive down there to look at it...drive it and what ever..then if you can make a sick day or time off from work and go to the bank tell them what you are doing..and then buy the car..with a check from the bank...

I like cash, however as the seller, I would not trust the fact that the entire wad is authentic.
I agree about closing the deal at a local bank. As a seller, I would have no problem with that idea because that way I could immediately deposit the funds and/or confirm authenticity.
