I'm not even close to being an expert, but in addition to the Halltech induction, I have that outfit's ported throttle body. The lean code will come on once every one or two thousand miles, but that's it. Does Halltech have any ideas?
Afy,, the '02's run around 14.7:1 to begin with, and with a new air intake it has basically gotten you to a pig rich condition at WOT.....
Maybe in the high 10's, 0r low 11's........
You will need a MAFT, and someone to set it for you, on a dyno, with a Wide band sensor......
The LTFT's need to be at Zero, and you AFR should be around 12.7/13.0 no more or less for max power and saftey.....
Maybe WA 2 FST WES, will see this post, and give his .02's.........or kewlbrz..........they know a lot about this situation..........
This occurs infrequently with the 2002 due to GMs removal of the MAF screen. Disconnect your battery for an hour (negative) and then connect it.
Do an idle learn session again. Mandatory when the battery is disconnected.
GM has allowed a threshold of unexpected airflow to the PCM before it spits the lean code.
Our newest Z1R AAF filter has put even more airflow into the engine and the threshold for what the O2 sensors correct the mixture for has been reached for 6 seconds or more in one bank or both.
You are not running lean or rich; the computer has adjusted the a/f ratio back to 14.6:1 in all fuel cells, and it took more fuel to do this than the computer is set for, thus the code.
They go away if you do the above. If not, it is probably an installation leak around the inlet of the MAF.
You can clear the codes easily from the drivers seat with no special equipment needed.
AFY, you will still need a MAFT.............
Your WOT AFR's are WAY rich........
If you do not install one, you are missing an extra 5-10 or more rwhp................. ;)
With #3 and #4 above, we have helped four 2002 Z06s make over 380 RWHP.
One customer was at 354.5 stock (John Wu). He installed the Halltech T-1 SideWinder package and made 383.4 RWHP 367 torque. His actual RWHP numbers that day were over 395 RWHP.
Here is the letter he sent to me. I also have the dynos:
This is our 2002 Z06 Dyno before and after with the same package:
This is a 2002 LS1 Convertible that installed our T-1 SideWinder package:
He now has 405 HP and 417 ft. lbs torque. More than a 2002 Z06!
I'm sure it will run very well, but it will still be too rich at WOT. Take Jim's advice and get the MAFT or AFR1. You'll be happy you did. Either will allow you to get the most potential out of your new intake.
