I store my car in an unheated garage and I want to know what I can put on my chrome wheels to prevent any rust or pitting. In the past I just put a heavy coat of wax on the wheel and hoped it would be enough. I have two year old Cray Scorpian wheels and I'm starting to see some pitting . Any Ideas?
I don't think a cold storage would cause the pitting frankly. If you put the car away clean, including nice clean wheels, and then went to the trouble of adding a coat of wax on them also...they should have come out the next spring just fine. I suspect some other reason for those pits, but I don't know the details enough to speculate.

I have always been told brake dust is responsible for the pitting.
I store my car for the winter in an unheated garage I put the car away clean and take it out almost as clean as it went away. My four year old Cray Scorpions are as shiny as the day i put them on the car, if your wheels are pitting I suspect another problem like brake dust.

I know some folks who have pools may store the pool chemicals in the garage. This is a no-no as the chlorine, even though there is a lid on it, can cause corrosion. As others have said, the fact that it is unheated will not accelerate the corrosion.
