Default Automatic Climate Control without Air Conditioning Running

I'm a new, first time C5 Corvette owner and how I got my 1998 coupe is a story in itself.

Anyhow, it has the automatic climate control. I'd like to operate it in the automatic mode but without the air conditioner compressor running unless it is a hot day and necessary.

I have the shop manual and the owner's manual and both state that shutting the A/C off at the touchpad kicks it out of automatic mode and into a manual mode. This is OK by me; but it seems as though having the automatic fan, etc, would be nice.

I'm just not an A/C guy unless it's really hot.

Thanks.

Automatic engages the compressor when the sensor input tells it it is necessary. You can't operate in auto mode and still control anything. Even if you turn the fan up or down one notch, it kicks out of automatic. You'll have to choose. Why not put it in automatic and turn the temp up higher to keep the compressor from kicking on. Of course, if it needs defrost, it will kick the compressor on anyway. I think you're stuck with using manual and adjusting the fan how you want it.

This is what I do. I don't use the AC and I like to leave the windows open.
I shut the unit off then press the outside air button. It seems to give me just the vented outside air I'm looking for with out any electronics.

Good luck with that '98. They are the best year.

I think you are out of luck using it the way you want in the automatic mode.

You don't need the ac just shut the system off, until you need heat or air.

You could try using a cut off switch on the compressor, never got around to trying one on my last c5.

Cut the wire that powers the clutch on the compressor run wires back into the cabin add a decent switch then you could control the compressor.

I never tried this so I don't know if it will work or if it will give you fault codes.
