Sorry about the damage and glad you are OK, but look at a potential positive - if you were thinking about modding the car, now is the time for an aftermarket hood, front bumper, etc.
Sort of a funny story. When I was a kid in Idaho I work on a farm moving irrigation pipe in the spud. Worked for a pretty good ole Mormon farmer really great guy to work for. One morning after I finished moving all the pipe and I was getting ready to turn the water pump on, he pulls into where I was at and had damage all over the front of his brand new 72 Chevy Cheyenne. Believe when I say, that was the truck to have in the day. Anyways he tells me a buck ran out in front of him on the way to the field. This is up in the Rexburg area, so deer are running around all the time up there. Anyways, he says he got out of the truck and made sure the deer was dead and pulled it to the side of the road and came and got me. We went back and threw the deer in the back of the truck. He took it home and cut and wrapped it all up. A couple days latter on payday, he gave me my check and a box of deer meat that had been made into hamburger, salami, steaks and even a couple of roasts. I came from a real poor family and he knew that and said for helping him he gave me a quarter of the deer. I'm sure it was more but I have to say, that was the best tasting deer meat I had ever had. Sorry about your Corvette but thank you for the memory.
I hit one once with less damage than that and I think it was close to $4500 for repairs. Body shop worked with me and absorbed most of the deductible. Good luck.
It's a shame for the car but why is the deer stupid???
Do you run out in front of an oncoming car/truck?
Yes the deer IS STUPID!
I don't know how many times I've been traveling down the roads and see them standing on the side and then bolt right in front of the car when you get close.....yes STUPID deer!

glad you are ok, that is what really matters. really sucks that your car looks like that after the collision but it can be fixed. i just had an accident too, one with a deer and my GMC truck (at the beginning of sept), cost $6000 to fix. and just got rear ended the other week in my Vette (should only be about $1000 to fix that one) so i can sympathize with ya.
Thanks everybody for your replies!! I appreciate all the advice and stories. I think maybe after I get my esstimate I may end up fixing it myself and saving a few bucks. Atleast to pay the deductible and hopefully having a little left over.
Does anybody know if I get a few estimates on having my car fix and my insurance company and I agree on a price to have it fixed. Will they send me the check of the agreed value for the repairs and let me fix it myself? I own the car no banks or financing involved.

Yes they will, you are the insured not the body shop, now if it had a bank loan on it they usually make it out to you and the body shop/bank to insure it gets fixed but in your case you have the right to pocket all of the cash if you want...but then you are stuck with the damage and any unseen damage (at estimate time) will be hard to get out of them.
Glad to hear you're OK. My car's still at the body shop due to a similar experience back at the first of the month. Deer ran out in front of me but I was able to miss it. Not before me and the car went into the ditch and took out the front end of the car and some fence though.
