If you have a stock shifter, consider getting the C6 shifter, its a drop in replacement. Although if you do this, remember to lock the neutral and mark the original shifter position before it is removed so the new one can be installed without problems.
Good luck with your repairs.
Another good recommendation is, buy a set of factory service manuals. Gene Culley (forum gm parts guy) can help you on parts and manuals.
I already bought my parts, just waiting for them to get here at the end of the week. Next I will get a replacement shifter. I heard Hurst made good ones, is a C6 shifter any better? Or does it not really matter?
Well it's always good to know of other sources for parts.
Night and day difference in shifters. (I wonder if the C5 stock shifter wasn't a multi-use component from a truck model...like the door handles are from most of the mid year GM models. )
Originally, it was the Z06 shifter, 09 and later was the redesign, then they merged them into just one shifter standard MN6 & Z's got the same shifter which is basically the Z's shifter.
I tried out an '07 Z06 shifter and ordered mine that same day.
