Don't know why it would damage the torque tube since the clutch would be disengaged, but why would you want to rev the car to redline anyway when it's not in gear?

No load reving is usually considered Ill advised. I cant say you're gonna break anything but I do know that its a lot more dangerous (malfunction or breakage wise) than reving while driving in gear.
