It was a Jeep dealer on the eastbound side just past the Sonic Drive in. It was a black coupe with blacked out windows/lights. The a/c didn't work, interior was tatty, engine ran rough, had about 55k miles. I saw it a couple of months ago. I wouldn't waste my time looking for it.

Nice that you have a friend that can check it out for you. It does sound really cheap, especially from a dealer. That alone would make my radar go off.
car is from a dealer. one town away.
right now that price is my budget (although i don't have to get one now)
and if it needs a lot of work, or has other issues, i won't walk away i'd run.
thanks for everyones input and help.
As with any older performance car you need to budget for repairs. The car could appear perfect today and tomorrow have all the problems this one might have.
Nothing worse than having spent all your money on the car and then it sits because you can't afford a $2000 repair bill.
I don't know why it's only 10.5 but it could be because the ebcm is shot and can't be fixed. You have to find a used one that works.
Mine is out and I know if I tried to sell it I would have to lower the price because of it. It doesn't effect anything unless you need ABS and TSC. To us old school guys, who don't track, and only drive in decent weather, it's of no concern.
Unless of course you're **** about thos sort of things.
just do what you intend and check it out. BUT IMO, if it does check out and that's the only concern, I would jump on it for that price. You can still find used ebcm's for less than 1K if you decide to ever fix it.
and who knows, it could just be a loose wire somewhere.

Zero rattles here on my 73k mile '01. Was the car wrecked? The car seems wayyy too cheap, and with the TCS/AH issues possibly being a bad EBCM (which is extremely hard to find for '97-'00), I would run away from this deal.
My 2000 coupe with 47k has ZERO rattles, look around plenty of nicer c5's around for not too much more money.
I bought my 2000 in August from a dealership that had the Traction Control and ABS lights on. The dealership sent me a brand new BPMV (Brake Pump Modulator Valve which is $1,400), but I still ended up buying a used EBCM (which connects to the BPMV) for $700. Not a cheap fix and ABS fixer will not fix 2000 EBCM (as stated). May be a deal breaker and a huge headache!
Abs fixer sucks. Go on fleabay. Guy charged 50 and works perfect. Abs fixer said they had a warranty, never called me back to fix my fixed part.

You can continue to drive your car with the module out since it's just the electronic module you are taking out and not the whole pump assembly. SAVE a ton of money by doing it this way!
10,500 and only 80k?! You know what they say if its to good to be true it probably is. I spent months looking for a c5 and i was in that same ball park as for as price goes. The only time i seen them that cheap with those miles were if they were wrecked and fixed or had serious problems. After looking i found a well cared for 2000 with 120k for 11,000 and i thought that was a pretty good price. My suggestions would be to keep looking unless you can make any repairs that come up your self. Like someone stated before nothing worse than spending all your money and not being able to drive because of costly repairs.
wouldn't the dealer have to fix what is wrong before selling?
Yeah, you would think; since it was a dealer and it has to do with brakes. If I was interested and the rest of the car was cherry. That is how I'd structure my offer. Fix the problem with the systems and I'll buy the car. Then before I signed on the dotted line I'd take it to a chevy dealer and have the brake system checked out. $110 at a Chevy dealership for this type of problem check is cheap in my opinion.
Corvettes 2000 on back have a different EBCM (Electronic Brake Control Unit) than the newer cars.
GM no longer produces the older style,, and rumor has it that no one can fix the older units either.
Those codes are often caused by a broken EBCM.
Find another car.
I know mine did it too... My warrenty just had ran out when it come on go figure..
The dealership stated they would have to replace the hub for the ABS. They gave mean estimate for 1300.00.. I said thanks and no thanks... It has come on 4 times in 5 years... I just turn off the car and restart it and the warning signs are gone... No issues...
