If your car has original rings, the catch can, etc. won't solve all the issues and you may still push some oil. I had an 01 that GM replaced the rings for me. If I recall, the only time the oil consumption showed up was when rpm's were constantly above 3500 and ring flutter took place. Seems like all the LS1-6 motors aerate the oil and low friction rings make catch cans a worthwhile investment.

Enjoy your Z06. My all time favorite body style.

Thanks for the insight, I dont mind a LITTLE oil consumption but I dont want to have a problem like some of the guys who have went through a qt in 1000 miles lol... I guess what I really want to do is prevent my intake from being flooded with oil, killing my 02 sensors and running lean... I guess Im gonna have to drive the vette like I drove my GTO and see how much it eats... This oil thing is new to me since I never had that problem in my 04 GTO which also had a LS6 engine minus 243 heads... Too bad the Vette doesnt have warranty anymore cause I would love to just get it re-ringed ect through GM since it was there problem...

Just curious how much you paid for your '01? I'm thinking of selling mine and just was wondering what they might go for. Mine has 25k, new Iforged wheels and Michelin ps2's, Borla exhaust but stock otherwise. Well, except for a crack in the oil pan which I plan to replace asap.

I tracked mine 01 Z06 once or twice but drove it pretty aggressively all the time and really never noticed big consumption issues.. My 02 Z06 would push oil too when I pushed it hard on track.

Hope it brings you a lot of enjoyment. I still stare at the FRC body lines when I see one.

It is highly unlikely you will have an oil consumption problem. In any case, it was a problem with the drivers. Not the Corvette.

Just don't drive it like a Honda 90 on a dirt track.

Nice car man, When I was first looking for a Z it was impossible to find one for a good price with decent milage. Everyone was asking 23K+ regardless of year 01-04 with low miles... I found this one in Bloomer WI which is about 6hrs north west from me for 24K "advertised"... I gave the guy a shot in the dark with a 18K cash offer and went on the whole economy spiel... He originally told me no and I told him GL with the sell, He contacted me back 3 days later and excepted my offer cause he needed the money and couldnt afford to wait until spring when the market is better for these cars lol... Win for me, He also gave me like 3K in extras such as another set of OEM Z rims with new tires ect... I can see you easily getting 22K or more for your car, I just got lucky... Guys in my area are asking 22K for C5Z's with 70K miles lol...

Lol... I do enjoy some late night Highway driving though if you know what I mean lol... For the cost and time that is involved in changing my Valley to a newer style valley its worth it just to be safe... Doing that and a catch can will put my mind at ease a bit...

Thanks for the info. I wouldn't let it go for less than about 25K due to new wheels and tires and I have the oem as well. Probable won't sell it at all due to the bad economy but maybe if I can get a reasonable price. Thanks again

No problem, You should have no problem getting that or damn near close to that... Seems that these cars hold there value pretty good and I dont really see them comming down... Best part is that we have lower milage ones which are hard to come by... Your always gonna pay a premium on that... The biggest selling point for me besides the milage was that the car was stock and untouched...

Dude, this is the biggest non-issue on the forum perpetuated by one or two guys with real issues and a bunch of hearsay. Don't assume its going to be a problem and go enjoy your new toy!

I bought my 03/01 build date z06 in august (mine has 23k you got a better deal than me). I talked at length with the seller about this issue, or non issue, as he has owned the car since it was about a year old.

He told me he was unaware of the issue when he bought it, but a friend of his told him about the possibility. He brought it back to the dealer, they did the test and informed him it was well within specs.

I was a little apprehensive, but he told me if it really was a problem, he would have had it fixed under warranty.

Well, after i got it, i loved it so much, i drove the hell out of it, always keeping a watchful eye on the oil level. After ~1000 miles of pure fun, the oil level had not moved at all.

I do believe that 01's have a bit of a unfair stigma on them, and it is really too bad because they are incredible cars, the best car i have ever owned bar none.

Hope this helps.

I was planning on starting to look seriously in september, and i was assuming i was going to florida or somewhere similiar to get one.

I just happened to be thumbing through our local paper, and unbelievable to me, there was a 2001 for 22.5k.

I called him up, he was a great guy, 62 years old, owned the car since 2002, had all of his receipts, and all paperwork for the car, sounded great, was not the year i originally wanted, but thought it was worth a look.

My wife and i went to see it, and honestly, as soon as i saw it, i was probably done. I looked it over, drove it, talked to the guy about it for a while, told him i was interested, but said i could not afford his asking price, it was over my budget.

He came down, in his words, as low as he would go finally to 20k, i told him that was more in line, and if the car checked out, we would have a deal.

My mechanic did a car fax on it, and put it up on his hoist, and went through everything. After about an hour he told me it was a really well cared for car, and the only thing he could find was the brake fluid was a little dark.

I do regret now not trying to get a little more off, but we made a deal at that number, and i love the car more than any car i have ever had. If i could have gotten it for 18 though, that would have been a steal.

I had the opportunity to have the rings replaced years ago.I didn't and I"m glad. This car runs and sounds so sweet that the risk of something not going back together correctly was not worth it.I"ll gladly add a quart of oil every 3 thou then to have my LS6 torn apart!!!Enjoy your Z.
