I see many vendors selling exhaust plates. Apparently they are designed to dress up the area between the pipes? They seem to be mounted using 3M tape much of the time. I was wondering what that area is that they are mounted to, is it 'glass or metal? and how much heat is it subject to? I'd like to assume that it must not get too hot if tape is going to survive there.
Thanks!!
It is fiberglass and no the pipes are near it, but not touching it, so I would not think the the temperature would be that high. I have had one on mine for about 5 years now and no issues. In fact a few years ago I removed the C5 logo and added a Jake logo and it is just vinyl and it has held up also.

Since my car is black, I was thinking of just painting that area to match.
Mine has been stuck on for about 5 years but this summer when we were having 100 degree temps for the extended periods, it started to fall off. Fotunately I got before it completely fell off.

Many of the exhaust plates attach using double sided 3M tape - and once on there, it is hard to get back off. If you put one on, you shouldn't have any problems with it coming off.
My exhaust plate has been on for about 2-years (3M Tape) with no issues.
mine is now on for about 3 years with 3m tape, no problems what so ever. the key is to make certain the mounting area is really clean (lots of alcohol wipes, lol) and the temperature is well above 60 at a minimum (the warmer the better for good adhesion).
Seems like the tape is fine, but I'm going to take a chance here. I also think the prices for these items are pretty high. (Hope I don't get banned for stating that)
You are correct in that they seem awfully high for what they are BUT what is not high! Mine hooks on top and the alignment and fit is done by a screw on the bottom of the plate. Went on quick and very permanent.

Some plates use an actual OEM C5 cross flags emblem. Those emblems by themselves run around $75.
