I live in No VA, and my C5Z will likely be tucked away in the garage for a few months. It won't be driven on a regular basis so I'm looking to purchase a battery tender. I'm finding a wide variety of features and price ranges from $40 to almost $200. I'm wondering what features are a must and whether buying the more expensive unit is justified over the lesser priced unit. Anyone out there have an opinion?
Well in the whole scheme of things, I would go the extra mile & purchase a premium tender.
You don't want to cheap out on something that may give you an electrical problem & end up destroying your garage & car.
There is one type that is mentioned almost daily in the 4 sale section, here on the forum.
That is the one that I'd go with.
Good luck with your decission.
I bought a tender a "Battery Minder" I've had it and is cost really little. $35.95 at most but at Amazon, com you can buy it for $20.00. Have had iy for years it only charges went your voltage drops to 11.65 % it then charges up to only 12.5 volts and then it goes to sleep. It also has a feature that it is able to strip the slag from the lead plates it called "Desulphatizing" and it's also they have a charger that is epescially maid for the("Optima') model Red Top battery. I put my 2003 on the car if it' going to sit for the winter or in case I'm going away. Best battery minder I have ever used. great item even when it's not charging it is cleaning the batteries lead plates. Can't complain !
If you leave it connected to the battery terminals and UNPLUG the wall outlet (ac) it will kill your battery in 2- 4 days, (even says on on the owners manual).
The better ones do not do that .
no biggie - but you should know that bad feature
I have many of both types -cheep & known brand names, and all have worked without problems ... for years ...
2 MC's
1 Vette
1 Boat
1 Boat Trolling Motor
1 John Deere
1 Chevy Pick Up
I have a Deltran Battery Tender Jr. plugged into the cigarette lighter socket with the wire wrapped around the steering wheel. Hopefully I will remember to unplug it before backing out of the garage. I am aware that many on the forum permanently attach their charger to the batter and leave it in the car. I don't understand what is wrong with the way I attach the charger.
Another vote for Deltran battery tenders. They are bullet proof, and will not overcharge your battery. I have two,,, one single and one dual. I need to purchase one more.
CETK 3300 here. Going on 7 yrs w/Red Top (looking to replace soon not wanting to push my luck). Use the CETK yr round. IMO, why take a chance going cheap & regretting it later. Good luck...
