I am looking at a C5 a friend of mine is selling. It is a 98 with a 6 speed. It is almost all stock with 65,000 miles and is red with t-tops. He has taken very good care of the car and it has been babied most of its life. He is asking 13,000 for it. Do you feel this price is about right? Also, what are some things I should look over on it? Thanks in advance!
Around me that would be a fantastic deal. After a few months of shopping, I just recently bought a 98 with 80,000 miles on it for $13,500 (but it did have a new clutch, a new aircon, new fuel pumps, new borla stingers, and a track-ready big break upgrade). Yours sounds like even more of a steal. Don't be hasty-pull the codes, look at the panels, read the service records, and for God's sake, get it up to highway speeds and listen for differential noise, but if it all looks good, hop on it. Bargain!
"Sounds like a good deal. But I do agree>>>"Pull the Codes" and search out what they're telling you. You'll feel a lot better about making the purchase when you"re sure about what you're getting. If you're not sure how to pull the codes, just ask! Any of us can help you with that one. And by all means, keep us informed! (smile)

I went and looked at the car today. He has all of the service records for it. I didn't realize it but he is the original owner also. I was wrong, it has 63,000 miles on it. This past year he had brakes done, short shifter installed, new water pump, alternator, battery, and i believe the harmonic balancer pulley. There were other things also, but that's all I can remember off the top of my head. The tires are Firehawks and have about 2000 miles on them. There is one known problem and that is a constant squeak coming from what sounds like the ac compressor. It may be a pulley or the belt, but it sounds like the compressor. He said he doesn't want to have to deal with it and will sell it to me and me only for $12,000 because of this. He also offered the garage at his lake house for me to store in during winters for free since I don't have extra space in my garage. I pulled the codes and got the following. I looked up most of them on C5help but that still doesn't mean much to me. Thanks for all your help guys!!

If the guy is the original owner and has maintained it. You will look a long time for a deal like this. A 100 runs on the quarter mile are like 10,000 miles of old fart drivine. JUMP ON IT
Pull the trigger. All of those codes seem to be old and may not be an issue since they have an H which stands for history and were just never cleared out of the system. None have a C which would be a current code. Just remember to keep a little money on the side for repairs that may come up. You are buying a 13 year old car and with that comes maintenance. Certain items regardless of mileage come to the end of their life even at 63,000 miles. But if the car has been cared for you should get a lot more out of it. Good luck with the purchase and welcome to the C5 group. You won't find a nicer example at that price. Be sure and find yourself a good corvette mechanic if you aren't one to do work on it yourself. Dealerships will take you to the cleaners on the older C5's.
