On the forum, I have not read of anyone replacing the batteries on 2001 – 2004 sensors.

Not worth the risk/effort. The older 97-00 sensors are expensive but Gen 2 are reasonably cheap. Just buy new. The battery life is about 10 years but put that against the cost of pulling tires to change them if they fail.

You can get a whole new set for under $200 from Gene at gmpartshouse.com. Not worth the effort to replace the batteries IMO.

I had my "old school" 99 sensors batteries replaced for $23 each by Corvette Don. Great work and pretty quick. I don't know if he does 01-04 sensors or not.

BTW, I did try a single new TPMS aftermarket sensor from Dorman first. The price was good but I could never get it to synch up and the stem was way longer than OEM and stuck out too fat past the rim on my thin spokes. So I returned it.

There are aftermarket units avaibile that are much cheaper then OEM. I have them in my 99 they worked just fine. I also bought a set for my 2007 Avalanche

Can't find them email me.

Early this year I put on four Michelin pilot sports PS/2 ZP as so many here have recommended, and I was sure that the air pressure sensors in my 2003 50th Anniversary Coupe original sensors were as close to being worn out as they could be. Really, it makes no sense to put new tires on and leaving 8 year old APMS in there. Now is not the time to scrimp on something as inexpensive as these late model sensors are. Who want to jack up you car, break the beads, only to put in four new sensors. I bought ZP as well and I don't want a chance of a tire to rim leak.

They're cheap enough, I'd just buy new ones! Now's the time.
