Hey guys,

Well I went to the bank yesterday to make a quick deposit through the ATM. When I parked my rental car in the lot, I saw a nice black C5Z parked across from me. Being that it was around 8pm and the bank was closed those where the only two cars in the lot and there was one guy at the ATM's. When i reached the machines this is the convo that happened:

ME: Hey, nice Z06!

HIM: Thanks man!

ME: What year is it, 03? (I had noticed 50th badges on the back)

HIM: Yea, but it's actually not a Z06.

ME: *confused since it can't be an FRC* really?

HIM: Yea, it's actually called a black widow, it looks just like a Z06 but it's not.

ME: *BS flags waving in my head since I hadn't heard of a C5 BW*

HIM: There where only 50 made. It's actually got a katech C5-R engine in it making 606hp (can't remember if he said to the wheels or crank hp) all N/A no supercharger or anything.


Theconvo went on for another 30 seconds or so and i said he had a nice car and gave him the benefit of the doubt since I had never heard of this before. He went back to his car and got on it a little bit leaving the driveway. I gotta say it did not sound like it had 600hp though, it honestly didn't sound any louder than my stock exhaust C5Z. He said he even had the plates in the trunk although im not sure what that meant, his car had no licence plates.

So, my question is, was he being honest? If so, I'd like to know more about this car but can't seem to find info on it . . .

Were you in your Z as well? Not that it matters... Did you notice if his pants was on fire when he told you that he was driving a Corvette BW?

 

I call I think there was a C4 ZR1 Black Widow but I have never heard of any C5.

I think the C4 was done by Doug Rippie. The engine was black with red accents. Hence the name.

If there was a C5 edition, I doubt it was done by GM. Which means if the car was a hard top it had to be a Z06.

I guess you never know but if the car is out there, I am surprised it has not come up here before.

 

Maybe a dealer added some widgets to sell the car to the unsuspecting naive owner you met. Dealers have been known to add gold, chrome, paint and decals and call it a one off special.

 

I have never heard of that... The only Black Window Vette I have heard of is a C4 ZR1 that made like 525hp... But then again who knows...

 

No i wasn't in my Z, i was in a rental car. I did tell him that i have a z as well though. Lol at the second part haha. He was wearing short, maybe they where pants that got half burnt off?

I had heard of the C4 BW's, but never the C5's. Since i'm a pretty avid reader of these (and other) forums I was surprised I hadn't ever heard of it.

This was the conclusion I came to aftrewards. I'm pretty sure it was just a 03' Z06. His "proof" was saying; "That's why the wheels are all black." They where just stock C5Z wheels that looked powdercoated lol.

Oh well, I guess people will just beleive anything they're told.

 

Unless it was converted to a hardtop. It is odd that he wouldn't know if it was a Z06, but he would know about Katech making C5-R engines etc.

 

BS, no such thing from GM called black widow, blue devil but not widow, sounds like someone trying to impress you or a dumber than dirt owner, maybe salesman......with black wheels my friends silver c4LT4 then would be a silver black widow

LOL at "its called a black widow"....would have said, "pop the hood and let me check that black widow out...and those plates in your trunk". Maybe it came with a piece of paper that says "Certficate of Authenticity" too.

 

This was what threw me off too, but form the rest of his speech it seemed to me like he simply memorized some mod sheet or sales sheet given to him.

Hahah i thought bout calling him out but I didn't feel like ruining his thanksgiving lol. What he did pulling out of the bank's lot was very immature as well. That street is busy and he kept getting sideways and revving his engine (which, like i said, didn't sound louder than stock). For a seemingly 40+ year old guy he acted my age (23) lol.

a N/A engine making 600 hp will sound significantly different than a stock LS6. This guy is either ill-informed or was yanking your chain.

Yep this is what I was thinking. While he was walking to his car i was just anticipating hearing this THUNDERING exhaust with a nice cam lope but had the biggest "WTF?!" look on my face when he started it lol.

you can never convince a wanna-be or a lier-be or a "tool" he is either wrong or doesn't know jack so why even bother, let them go on making themselves look like idiots/tools and just move on with a chuckle and story to tell.

 

Every know nothing insists his car is rare and has 5 or 600 horsepower.

If they were to go for a ride in something that actually had that they wouldnt be talking out the side of their neck.
