Default LG Super Pro headers without cat question

I have an 02 Z06 with a Magnuson supercharger. Has anyone in California ever gotten pulled over with long tube headers without cats? Is this a fix it ticket or not a big deal? Can they make you remove the headers? My car is not due for a smog check until after I leave California.

I am moving to Hawaii in June and taking the car. I want to install these headers before I go. No emissions in Hawaii!

Thanks,

Andrew

Can't answer your question about California, but I just shipped my car out of Hawaii and I was running the same setup. They do have a safety inspection out here and as long as they DO NOT check under the car you are fine, but some places have been known to do so. It is a hit or miss.

Yes, I have been caught and was sent to Smog Referee station and had take my long tubes off and put on Shorties with an CARB EO #. It really depends on who pulls you over and if the cop is a dick or not. But officially long tubes are illegal.

If your exhaust isn't loud, chances are you won't get pulled over......unless you're doing something really stupid in the car.

I say go for it.

Thank you! I knew they had safety inspection but didn't know it was an issue to have catless headers.

That sucks and costs money. I'm sorry to hear that.

It's only an issue if they check for them. Most do not, but some may. Just keeping you in the know.

I have LG PROs w/no cats now H/C/I and stock TIs and it's still pretty damn loud. My friend has catted Dynatechs (same as Design as LGs) with same size cam and a supercharger on his Z06 and it doesn't seem quite as rowdy even though he's got Borla stingers. Cats make a big difference during normal driving even with long tubes, less at WOT but if you get pulled over going wide open it wouldn't really matter much.

I am actually upgrading my LG (catted) Streets to the LG Super Pro's (no cats) with my H/C/I and Corsa Indy's... I am guessing mine will be pretty loud..

Are you getting it re-tuned after the swap? I'd love to see the dyno comparison, and I'm sure I'm not alone.
