Default fault messages

i disconnected the batt to install and ipod adapter to the radio. now that i have reconnected the batt i am getting a low fuel message and a low oil level message. also the tire pressure monitors are showing no reading. will these systems return to normal after relearning or will i need to do something to trigger the learn for each parameter.

also how can i get a shift indicator illuminated on the HUD

thanks in advance!!

Disconnecting the battery shouldn't cause those problems. The only thing that might be an issue is the radio locks up if you have the security feature operating. You then need a code to unlock it. Some members lose memory settings.

To understand the problem are the gauges reading normally but you're getting DIC warnings? Or; are the gauges dead? If so, just the oil/temp or are others affected?

The TPSs are dormant until you drive the car. My guess is that they will come back after a few minutes of driving. Cant say I've ever noticed if they stop working whenever I've disconnected the battery.

Do you know how to pull the codes? Check the codes and clear them out. Drive the car and see if the faults clear. Recheck the codes and post up any which come back.

A codes has a prefix, 4 numbers and one or two suffixes:

C1234HC
H means history and c is a current fault.

Default Shift Indicator

The shift indicator comes on when you hit the max revs for a gear. It works for both manuals and automatics. If you ignore the light the engine goes into a protection mode and limits the revs. You'll feel it as a hesitation/stutter.

Shift Light (Performance SHIFT Light)
This light is used for performance driving to indicate that the vehicle’s best performance level has been reached to shift the transmission into the next higher gear. The SHIFT light will display at an
engine speed of about 5,750 rpm (6,250 rpm on Z06), just prior to reaching the engine fuel cut-off mode.

BTW, its worth filling out your profile so members can give information specific to your car and your area.

Default Checking DIC Codes

To list your codes, turn the ignition key to the ON position, but don't start the engine. Clear any present DIC messages (like Door Ajar, or Service Steering Column) by pressing the RESET button. Then hold the OPTIONS button down, while pressing the FUEL button 4 times. This will get you into the CODES section of the DIC.
The computer will automatically display all the codes your car is or has created. It will cycle through each code every 3 seconds. You can watch it display codes for every module in your car. If you want to write them down, go ahead. Any code that ends in H is a history code - something that has occurred in the past but is fine now. The computer is very sensitive and would throw a code if you turned the radio off while tuning it.
Once the computer has finished going through all of it's automatic codes, press RESET to enter Manual Configuration. It should start with a module and show "NO CODES" or "# CODES". If it shows a number of codes, press and hold RESET until it displays "NO CODES".

thanks deegee,
the TPS has reset along with the low fuel warning, the low oil level is still on. i will check to insure proper level. all gauges were and are showing normal. doesnt appear as if i have effected any programs. the ipod install is great. i recommend it for all. i can actually control the ipod with the buttons on the factory radio, hence all eyes on the road.

i updated my profile as you suggested, if you would please check it to see if i did it correctly?

vetterific. go for the ipod install. i suggest disconnecting the batt. my reason for disconnecting the batt was to avoid locking the radio.

deegee, would disconnecting the batt prevent radio lock?

No trouble at all. the profile looks good. It just helps people give you better advice

Glad everything reset OK. Sounds like you maybe need to top off the oil.

It's actually the other way round. Disconnecting the battery can cause radio lock. It has a security function which is designed to lock up if power is removed. It prevents someone stealing the radio and selling it on. Before disconnecting the battery you should turn off the security mode and you'll be fine. There's a 1-800 number that you can call to get your individual code if you don't have it.
