If in fact it is a true pace car, lose the eagle decals - it will make the car look so much better IMO. They just don't go with the package. Going to be hard though if the side ones are painted on.
I wish I knew the reason for those eagles... it really does not go with the decals at all.
I am guessing they were applied in honor of 9/11. It was common to display your love for America for a few weeks back then. Somehow the majority (or 99% of them) ended up with amnesia.
Come on guys! There is still a question about this being a original pace car? This car is a guys plan to make it look cool and use the decals and work towards making it look like a pace car.
Anybody can get stiching for boots through several vendors, seats same thing, wheels can be done (would like to see what those look like). Decals for the car can also be easily available. Again the deck does not look like the pace cars deck and someone who took a real pace car and acessorized it with american decals (which I had on my dodge truck and looked fantastic!), put chrome inlays on the corvette lettering on the rear and so on would either be some young kid or a certified nut! Who in their right mind would change a pace car from its original build? Lets see some more photos of this replica! (one way or another)
I just have to add! Since when is showing your patriotic colors a medical issue and attached to 9/11? I had those eagles proudly displayed on my white Dodge Ram (before 9/11) and they looked way cool. The reason people put these on their cars is to show pride for their country. Its usually us military folks or emergency providers or Law Enforcement personnel that have deep feeling for our country. I am not saying they look good on the corvette in fact none of those decals look good on the car in its current state, but this was the guys style and I am sure he got compliments about it! Hopefully we will not get amnesia and forget 9/11.
If buy chance it is a real Pace car, finish her up they way she is supposed to look (those eagles are vynal and with the use of a hair dryer can be removed)
Checked it out again today. It's got the Z4Z RPO, yellow stitching, comes with the original yellow wheels and a complete set of decals. It is a true pace car. The only thing in doubt is whether I buy it or not!
Nice find. Put it back to original pace car shape and enjoy. I always love seeing those. I used to have a neighbor who had one and I would always pass it leaving the house. I loved seeing it when he had it out or the garage open. I think it's the 98 pace car that partially got me into loving Corvettes so much. I think without the eagles and with all the original parts to the pace car you'd have a very nice car on your hands. If the yellow wheels are in the boxes and barely used then keep them like that or throw them on if you are only using it to show. Either way, nice find.
is there more then one picture of this pace car with the eagles posted?
The only picture i can see is of the rear driver side 3/4 view with the top up. How can you see the "humps on the deck" with the top up?
MrGary2011 keeps referring to the "Humps on the Deck"
Again the deck does not look like the pace cars deck and someone who took a real pace car ,
My understanding is that only the (3) "TRACK" pace cars were equipped with that High Hump deck. All the replicas were sold with the standard C5 humped deck.
You could buy an after market high hump deck if you wanted to make your replica pace car look like one of the "track" cars. I don't know the website off hand but i am sure someone out the will know the company i am referring to.
So this "replica" pace car in question could very will be a from the factory which most people have. The previous owner(s) changed the rims and added eagle stickers and painted on as his own personal touch.
It may not be one of the "TRACK" Pace Cars because it doesn't have the "humps" but most of the pace cars for sale on the market are the "replicas" anyway...
If you were told that this was a TRACK PACE CAR, then you should be really concerned with all the "numbers and documentations" any and all paper work that will prove to be 1 of 3.
But as it appears in the only picture i can see, it could very well be one of the factory "Replicas" that out there for sale.
Although the 98 Pace Car's color scheme is not one of my favorites, they are wonderful pieces of Corvette history and IMHO, should be kept completely original. There are plenty other 'regular' Vettes to mod.
Bought the car yesterday!
First order of business will be to remove the rear decal and extra side one behind the front wheel. Already have a quote to repaint the mural on the bottom sides. Then, get the rest of the original decals applied. Finally... a REAL GOOD cleaning - it needs it!
