Default Telescopic steering issues

Why is it when I drive the Vette the telescopic wheel will move out on it's own? I don't touch any thing and it does this. My wife drives the car and never has this problem. It's to the point that I move the wheel all the way out so I'm not distracted while driving.

Does she use a different key fob? The fobs are set to the 1 and 2 memory settings of the car. Try resetting the memory for the number that is yours. If it doesn't help do a search on cleaning the plug for the memory setting which is somewhere near the seats. It can sometimes cause some trouble. Good luck and Merry Christmas!

If I understand correctly, the wheel actually moves when the car is underway? If so something is very wrong. Is it just the wheel that moves or do the other memory settings change too?

If the wheel is moving without a command it sounds like a ground or a short to ground issue to me. I should say that with a random fault I'm guessing.

Strange that it only happens with your settings. Are you and your wife's seat positions a lot different? It suggests that the fault is evident in one particular seat position.

I'd start at G201 (drivers door) where the system grounds. make sure it's clean and tight.

The seat control module seems to control most of the functions. The memory seat control module sits under the seat and is fixed to the seat foam support wires. The wiring can be damaged if the seat has been pulled or the wires are not properly attached to the seat. Do you have any SCM codes? You could check the SCM connectors, clean and reseat them. Any evidence of damage to the wiring near the SCM? You will probably have to take out the seat fixing bolts to get access under the seat.

When you check the codes if you have a load of U codes it points to an electrical issue.

If the left door control module is used, then it's always worth checking the wiring in the door hinge as thats a classic reason for many electrical problems. Pull, clean and reseat the connector inside the rubber gaiter in the hinge area and check for chafing of the wiring.

The only other thing I can think would be a faulty tilt switch. Try some electronics cleaner squirted into the switch to clean it up. Does it seem to operate normally?

FYI, this is how the system works:

Tilt\Telescoping Operation

The telescoping steering column in/out switch is an input to the seat control module. The telescoping drive motor is an output function of the seat control module. The telescoping actuator assembly is cable driven by the telescoping drive motor.

Steering column memory settings are stored in the seat control module. The steering column position sensor is an internal part of the telescoping actuator assembly, and is an input to the seat control module. The seat control module uses the position sensor input when storing and recalling memory settings.

Memory steering column, and the easy enter/exit operations are performed by the seat control module. However the left door control module assumes control when memory settings are stored and recalled, by use of the serial data link. The body control module assumes control when the easy enter/exit operation occurs, by use of the serial data link.

The body control module stores the RPO code configuration which signals to the seat control module whether or not the telescoping steering column option is active. This RPO code configuration must be correct, and received by the seat control module, or power seat, and telescoping steering column operation will be inoperative or incorrect.

To turn off telescopic function in the DIC:
Go to configure options, then turn off seat easy entry.
This will disable seat and telescopic function.

That only disables the automatic move to full back when the key is removed. It in no way disables telescopic function. The memory portion and the manual portion of the seat and telescopic function still work normally. Since his wheel is moving toward him, it has nothing to do with easy entry.

Default Not working at all

My telescopic feature does not work at all. When I move the switch forward or backward I hear a noise but nothing happens. What could that be?

Whenever I hear of issues with the telescoping steering column the first thing I always suggest is to look at the driver's seat's blue 7-pin connector at the seat to car interface on the floor. Lose pins or dirty pin contacts will cause all sorts of issues to happen. The SCM is the device that controls it as well as the position feedback for memory on the column.
