Guess what my wife got me for Christmas? Yep a GoPro HD. I can't wait to try it out this spring. I have a question for all you GoPro veterans. Is using the suction cup attached to the outside of the car a problem? I just don't want this thing falling off. I want to take a few vids with the camera attached real low close to the front fender a la Miami Vice (pilot episode).

That second video sounds kick azz!! Nice.

OP, I like the way the video the go pro makes is so steady. Experimenting, I used some cotton ***** and taped them over the microphone and that killed most of the wind noise. You might try some different materials and see what you come up with to knock the wind noise down.

Moviemaker for windoz 7 works well for cutting and splicing, adding titles and such. Here, look: http://s646.photobucket.com/albums/u...August%202011/

I picked one up earlier this year for upcoming autocross and track day events. Regarding the suction cup, spit in it (yeah, at least its your own) to get a good stick on a clean surface. On the glass or flat surfaces it will not come off. On semi-curved surfaces like the door panels & nose, it does pretty well. No issues at-speed on the track in 4 or 5 locations.

Just a few of my observations below.

The best low view for suction cups I found is actually rear-facing, between the catback tips (Borla 2-tip), in the Upside-down mode. And the audio is perfect up to 70 mph even with the open-back GoPro cover. The trunk well is a good windbreak.

My second choice is right at the front of the hood. The plastic bumper cover (and the hood to a lesser extent) is not rigid, so any road vibrations will transfer significant camera wobble. Audio quality bites above 20mph anywhere up here with either GoPro door.

The wobble is somewhat noticable on the extremes of the quarter panels as well. The most rigid placement is on the door panels themselves or the front glass, but not necessarily the best view. Tradeoffs.

Even with the jiggly camera mount points, the stabilization compensates pretty well. They offer sticky-mounts which probably reduce this, but I've been too chicken to try one yet.

I also picked up the head-strap and put it to good use for a week at the lake. The 170* view picks up to your forearms when horsin' a fish and is hands-free. It also swims with the kids. Not just for cars, so helps with the purchase justification.

For software I use Sony Vegas Pro, which does almost everything I've needed to do.

Thanks Eddie 70 and Qwik01, that was my 85 C4 it was the second run of the day and it beat the old record by 2 seconds. My third run was not as fun. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eg2qv...eature=related I had the car up and running two weeks later for the next event.
I'm going to run my 99 FRC this coming year.

TrueBlueCoupe, I tried a few program for editing the GoPro footage the one I like the best is Adobe Premiere elements. My computer runs Vista so that mite make a difference for you, I understand Windows7 will let you work MP4's in Windows Movie Maker Vista does not. I think a new version of Premiere just came out so the last version can be had for like $25.

it is rated to 200mph and no just give it a good wipe down prior to mounting and ggive it a tug after you mount it to make sure it will stay. unless you live in a town that is snowed in please put it on your car before spring, or put it on your snow plow or something... dont let a great present sit in a closet.

Computer electronics store here intown had it called Altex. Found it around the security mounts department for $20.

I do like the bigger wide angle view on the Go Pro's. Is the Hero2 the one that looks like everything is round sorta when recording, fish eyed type?

Yes that was me, that was my 3rd run of the day the record run was the 2nd run. I had an evac system (one way valves going from the exhaust to valve covers) on the car and the valves failed pressurizing the crankcase blowing oil all over the left front tire. I was going about 100 when that happened. I had the car fixed and was racing two weeks later.
Thanks,
Dave
