Years ago I tinted my windows, I have limo tint on the back window and the sides are I think 15-20%. I was wondering what the best solution would be to see better when backing up.
I bought some LED bulbs for the reverse lights, but they just seemed to change the color with no improvement in brightness. I actually thought it was slightly darker.
On my Brother's Tundra we just installed some PIAA back-up lights wired into his reverse lights, they are pretty hidden and really bright. I was thinking of adding maybe just one under the bumper cover if I could get a wide enough beam and it was able to be semi-hidden. Has anyone ever added an auxiliary light and wired it in so that it only comes on while in reverse?

how about trying some lighter tint on the back ? if you can't see to back how are you gonna see to change lanes? you will be one of thos people with the lame excuse " oh officer i didn't even see them" , then is to late to fix the problem.......

To start with, I've had the same % tint on my other two past cars, installed at the same shop by the same guy and could back up and see just fine. Sure it was darker than stock, but there was still enough light to see clearly. On the Corvette sometimes even with the window down it doesn't seem like there is enough light back there at all. Actually thought I had a light out once.
I can see to change lanes just fine, I've never had an issue like that in any of the cars that have been tinted. I've also never been pulled over for tint, ever. and I live 4 blocks away from a State Patrol station which I pass multiple times a day.
I'm a very good driver and don't drive like an idiot and unlike the majority of people out there (Corvette brothers excluded) I actually know where the cars are at around me while i'm driving, so 99% of the time I can tell you if someone is in my blind spot or not. But, thanks for saying I'm gonna hurt someone while driving my car

Wonder if I can rig some HIDs to the rear (I have several spares from the front end)
That looks like exactly what I need, maybe even too bright. haha Not sure how I missed that thread. I will order some as soon as I get back from South Africa in April. Thanks a lot.
LOL, I have also very dark tinted side and rear window on a black vert with a blackout kit on the backup lights. I know where you are coming from with not being able to see when backing up but alas too late. I spoke to my tint shop and they will not remove back window tint without the possiblity of damaging the window heater element. I hope the next owner likes tinted windows. Rob

the tint shop i use removed the tint off of my gf mustang with no problems. they wetted it and put some plastic on it and put it out in the sun. after a little while in the sun with the moisture under the plastic it was soft enough to pull off and just be cleaned..... the worst part of it was that she had a mustang when i met her... soon after we met she traded it for a cts-v
