One thing about forums is the capability of dishing out and receiving opinions without getting all hurt about them.
Trust me if I tell you, that this is one of the most civilized and monitored forums out there. You really need to try some other car forums out there, they are brutal.

You have to have some thick skin to join a public forum on the net, and have the capability of not taking things too seriously.

Happy New Year to all.

This is an easy solution.

Just limit the forum membership to people who only have stock, solid color C5's with chrome wheels.

Problem solved.

Happy New Year.

Thank you Corvette Forum for your comments about this topic. The solution is not to limit membership or to in anyway prevent people from expressing their personal opinion. I believe that the great majority of people are civil here and want to help other members.
I have personally gained so much from reading about other people's experience with their C5s and others can do the same. I also enjoy the sense of humor that we all have and that IS part of the fun we have. If we just raise our consciousness about the topic and give some thought about what and how we say things, I believe we can create an atmosphere that promotes differing opinions and viewpoints. And we all might even learn something! THANKS EVERYONE!

Good post but I doubt people will change. As has been metioned, the internet seems to empower people and allows them to act in ways differently than they may in public. Sitting at a keyboard, in your underwear drinking a beer just makes some feel like they can say anything. That and not having to worry about a punch in the nose!

I just want to say I have got a lot of good information here. Plus I enjoy a good BS session as long as it isn't heated. If you met me in person, I assure that i could talk your ear off.

BTW, I read about all the common C5 issues here before and after I got my project. I think my car has all of them! Good news is some are already fixed with thanks to advice from this site. My New Years resolution is to be driving it next summer with everything fixed, the top down and the stereo cranked.

Matt,

I wasn't accusing you. You had not even posted in the thread I had on my mind when I made the comment. I was just commenting that some take it too far and being funny is no excuse.

Good thread. I too have received benefited from participating in this forum. The knowledge and experience available has saved me from making poor decisions and a good amount of money.

As for poor conduct, it is sad that adults find it ok to be smartasses or belittle people in forum interactions. I truly hope social norms are not deteriorating to the point that such conduct is accepted without challenge or consequence. The moderators do a good job on this forum, certainly better than I have seen on other forums. Hopefully, the next year will be good for everyone and folks will at least try to conduct themselves will a greater amount of self-control and set a better example for the kids. They do watch how adults conduct themselves.

Happy New Year.......

I promise to be good! I've been to three sections here a bunch. Started off in C4 now in C5. C5 has more trouble makers than OT sometimes and definitely more than C4, which is why I seldom go to OT. However PR&C is fun.

I know I couldn't work on this thing without you guys. Thanks!

What gets me is when someone post a picture of a mod, someone with different taste will start badmouthing you.Dang if we all had the same taste the world would be a bore.I dont like some mods I see but I never rip into someone cause their taste is different. I hate the douchebags that do it!

Many times I feel bad for a poster .... getting it bad ... sometimes I just comment "Tough Crowd Here" hoping we don't lose a good joe because of some jerk ...

and 2 out of 3 people will LIE when online for whatever reason, and I always remember that stat
especially when there's exaggerated comments / insults being thrown around ...

The smartest humans will not engage the ones who are purposely acting ignorant.
(I just made that up !)

Without this forum I'd still be going back to GM for my Column Lock Issue (8 years now they want to install/alter/fix/reprogram my car) I tell them CLB they just look at me with a puzzled look on their face - gotta love it !

Part of the enjoyment in gaining knowledge here is filtering through all the varied responses.

If everyone was politically correct, kind, and 100% accurate, the forum would be rather bland.

A forum is just that, a place to express your ideas & opinions. Don't hold back or censor yourself too much.

We can learn, be entertained, and perhaps even give better future responses from taking in all that gets presented.

Personally, after reading through hundreds of posts on the EBCM issue, I learned to ask the dealer for a goodwill repair, and I got it, albeit from the second dealer I asked.

Point here is, given the options presented on EBCM issue, I could have: sent for a rebuild, left it alone, or used the search function to read even more about it. I opted for advice that worked out well for me.

Bottom line, read and learn here, be entertained, be offended, be amused, laugh, share, have fun, and above all, just be a part of it.

I certainly hope CF never becomes some humorless vegan let's go to Starbucks and drink chai tea with our pinkies out save the planet politically correct at the expense of accuracy hang.

There are lots of helpful people here who can help you solve a technical problem or keep you from being the unwitting laughing stock at a cruise in. There are also some very funny people.

If you're so thin skinned that a comment made by someone you don't know, will probably never meet and really doesn't give a rats *** what you think upsets you then an open internet forum is probably not the right place for you.

Let keep CF technically helpful fun and humor filled.

As I said in my original post, I think the good humored jabs and smart remarks are a very good part of CF. All I am trying to say is that if we berate and belittle people we are really not helping anyone and we are promoting sarcasm, cynicism, and rudeness. I can have fun without doing that! Just thought it would help the overall "tone" of the forum if we just thought about our responses before we flamed or blasted. Just sayin!

By all means have fun, joke around, do practical jokes, take a contrarian position, be absurd, tell lies! All part of the public forum, I agree.

Thanks to everyone who has posted their opinion and thanks to all who have helped so many with issues on the C5!
