Looking through catalogs, I see a great deal of accessories use adhesive for mounting. To mention a few, chrome rings around the rear side lights, exhuast enhancer plate. chrome add-ons under the hood. etc. My question is how lo0ng does the adhesive last.

Like anything else, it just depends on the quality of the adhesives used by the vendor. If it's light-duty category stuff, 3M makes the best and it will last for years. UV and ozone resistant.

Plus, it will also be dependent on your prep work in making sure the mounting service is clean.

Buy quality stuff, do the proper prep work before installing and it should last a long time.
Again, I have gained much needed knowledge on this forum. Thank you. Santa left me some $$ and I ordered a few things for my Corvette. One of them is an exhaust dress up plate. I was wondering if there were any tricks to installing it. Looks like I have my answer.

also. the key is the prep work done BEFORE the part is mounted. i have an exhaust plate that has been on for many years and shows no sign of weakening or coming loose. the mounting surface is also an important consideration. it must be totally clean and free of any dirt or grease for starters.
