I replaced my goodyear runflats years ago with Michelins, which I like much better. But has Goodyear improved on the road noise over the last few years? I think the Goodyears look better. thanks
I don't think that the OEM Goodyears have changed at all. I am on my third set of them. There is no wider tire in that size, heck they are wider than the ZO6 tires ! Contrary to popular opinion, they do handle great. They also wear well, I get 55,000 miles from fronts and 45,000 miles from rears.
Will be interesting to hear of any comments on the Goodyears. The Michelins have consistently gotten good reviews.
The Michelin Pilot Sport Cup ZP is supposedly what's going to be standard on the new ZO6s, but according to Tire Rack they're not intended for really foul weather. My Pilot Sport A/S ZPs do OK in snow. Just a thought. I don't rally care about road noise because mine's a convertible with a fairly loud exhaust.

....
And I think that is why I'm going to bite the bullet and get another set. If they cost me $600 more but last twice as long as the other tires I think it is money well spent.....the fact that I do NOT track my car and use it for limited "spirited" driving suits me well.
IMHO I think these are by far the best looking tire on the car.
I switched from my second set of Michelin run flats after the original GY EMT to Nitto NT-555s, in my opinion best move I've made so far. These tires are simply awesome.
For $24 on Amazon I got a very nice air pump that plugs into the lighter socket and a kit.
You simply wouldn't believe how different the Nitto's handles and tolerates the road surface, plus the superior grip and handling on both dry and wet (very wet) surfaces.
And at half the price, even with the tire replacement certificates.

If I were buying runflats - then I would seriously look into the Michelin PS2 ZP. It is the standard equipment tire on the ZR1. It is available in the stock sizes for those of you running the OEM wheels. And best of all - for those of you considering going back to the OEM GY Eagle F1 EMT tire, the Michelins are about $150-$200 cheaper than the GY on Tire Rack's web site.....I'm sure other vendors offer similar pricing.
I have the GY's on my Pace Car - they SUCK!!!! They are noisy and ride like iron ox-cart wheels. If I wasn't looking for originality - they would be gone!

How old are your Gy's?Don't they put them on the new corvettes?
I like my Michelin Pilot Sport ZP's they have been on my car for three years now but I do not drive my car when the temperatures are near of below freezing. Your tire choice should be determined by when you drive. If yours is a daily driver then you should consider the AS series tire.

Actually they are an option on both the ZR1 and the Z06. The ZR1 option is RPO PDE and it is the RPO Z07 option for the Z06. Now maybe they will become the standard tire in 2013. A few months back Car & Driver or Motor Trend did a comparison on I believe 12 or 13 high performance sports cats and the Zo6 cleaned their clocks but they were not voted the best, because they said that GM sent them with special sticky tires. You would think a top of the line magazine would know about a option that is available on these cars.

yeah, but the following month a lot of letters to editor took them to task on that nonsense, as well as not using a ZR1.

My tires are fairly new - a couple of years old max. But mine are the OE tires, not the latest generation that came standard on the newest C6's. It's a totally different tire, and if I am not mistaken - the new style is not available in the C5 stock sizes.

I have experience with the Goodyear Eagle F1 EMT Run Flats and the Kumho Ecsta MX XRP Run Flats. Both are great tires but I prefer the OE Goodyear EMT's. Appearance wise, these 2 look the best by far.
The Goodyear EMT's look the best though. They are the widest and their side wall and tread are a little nicer and more aggresive imo. I don't think that either are that hard riding. As far as noise, the Goodyear's are the quieter of the 2.
Oh, one more positive thing about the OEM Goodyears, THEY SAVE 3 MPG OVER REGULAR NON-RUNFLAT RADIALS (and give better gas mileage than other runflats).
This is due to their low rolling resistance. Remember, these are the only runflats able to go 200 miles while flat.
